These grants benefit the <strong>WV</strong>-<strong>INBRE</strong>as a whole as well as the PUIs, and each focused on a biomedical research project. Project proposalscould be for initiation <strong>of</strong> a new research endeavor or to continue an ongoing project. Individual investigatorsat each PUI could apply for a maximum <strong>of</strong> award <strong>of</strong> $40,000. Funded projects were required to involveundergraduates in the research. Continuation <strong>of</strong> funding for previously funded projects required solidevidence <strong>of</strong> research progress.SUBPROJECT PROGRESSFaculty Research Development Awards granted this year were to: Dr. Kaushal, University <strong>of</strong>Charleston, $13,200; Dr. Linger, University <strong>of</strong> Charleston, $10,000; Dr. Kim, Shepherd University,$28,800; and Dr. Luo, Alderson-Broaddus College, $40,000.PROTECTION AGAINST RESEARCH RISKSN 1.
