The Coaching StaffGINGER HAMRICHead CoachGinger Hamric begins her 18th season at the helm of the <strong>Catawba</strong> <strong>College</strong> volleyball program.Hamric’s teams have compiled a 364-202 record and in 2001 became the first SouthAtlantic Conference team to qualify for NCAA II regional play after claiming the 2001 SACTournament title. In 2000, <strong>Catawba</strong> took the SAC Championship and posted a 34-7 record.<strong>Catawba</strong> also captured the 1990 and 1991 SAC Tournament crowns under Hamric. She <strong>is</strong> alsoan instructor in <strong>Catawba</strong>’s Goodman School of Physical Education.Hamric <strong>is</strong> a member of the NCAA Div<strong>is</strong>ion II National Volleyball Committee for the SouthRegion. She continues to coach juniors in the USA Volleyball program.Prior to her arrival at <strong>Catawba</strong>, Hamric, was volleyball coach and a biology teacher at Mt.Airy High School. That position was her first after graduating from Appalachian StateUniversity in 1985. She was also an ass<strong>is</strong>tant coach in basketball and co-coach in softball.Her volleyball teams at Mt. Airy won two state (2-A) championships (1986, 1987) andthree Northwestern Conference titles (1986-88). Two other seasons (1988 and 1989), the Lady Bears were state runner-ups. Overall,Hamric’s five-year record at Mt. Airy was 95-14. She was voted league coach of the year three times and Mt. Airy High School Teacherof the Year in 1987 and 1989.An outstanding former athlete herself, Hamric was a three-year starter in volleyball at Forbush High School, before graduating in1981. At ASU, she was captain of the team as a hitter in 1983 and 1984. She helped lead the Lady Apps to the Southern Conferencechampionship during her senior season.Hamric earned a bachelor’s of science education degree from ASU. She earned a master’s degree in science education from WakeForest. She <strong>is</strong> a member of Gamma Beta Phi academic honor society and Kappa Delta Pi educational honor society.She resides in Sal<strong>is</strong>bury and in Yadkin County with her husband, Will.Ass<strong>is</strong>tant CoachStudent Ass<strong>is</strong>tant CoachesBarry RymerBarry Rymer <strong>is</strong> in h<strong>is</strong> seventh yearas an ass<strong>is</strong>tant with the <strong>Catawba</strong>women’s volleyball program. Rymerpreviously served as an ass<strong>is</strong>tant from1999-02. He came to <strong>Catawba</strong> afterexperience as a Junior Olympic volleyballcoach in Greensboro, whereone of h<strong>is</strong> team advanced to thesemifinals of the 17 Open RegionalChampionship.A 1993 graduate of the Universityof North Carolina at Greensboro,Rymer earned a bachelor of sciencedegree in elementary education and aAmanda Nantz Step Nelsonsecond degree in h<strong>is</strong>tory. He graduated cum laude and made theDean’s L<strong>is</strong>t on six occasions. He graduated from South Rowan HighSchool in 1989, where he was a two-time MVP in cross country.Rymer began coaching volleyball in 1997 as an ass<strong>is</strong>tant atBassett High School. He helped guide the JV program to a conferencetitle. Rymer establ<strong>is</strong>hed Greensboro Volleyball Club, Inc., in1998 to organize and promote outdoor volleyball tournaments.He <strong>is</strong> a member of the United States Association of Volleyballand was USAV regional champion in 1995 and 2000, and runner-upin 1997 and 1998. Rymer won the coed championship in 1999 andwas on the All-Region team in 2000 and 2001.Rymer <strong>is</strong> a teacher at Isenberg Elementary School. He resides inChina Grove with h<strong>is</strong> wife, Amy. They have two daughters, Anna(4) and Leah (2).- 3 -
