Discuss them with yourfacilitator or support person.As per individual emergency department.3.2 PATIENT ASSESSMENTACTIVITY 3Locate the ‘Deteriorating Patient’ policy at your hospital. Identify each of the parameters that makeup this criterion, and discuss one of the clinical indicators of urgency.Discuss with participant.113.3 AIRWAYACTIVITY 4Read the respiratory chapter of any Anatomy and Physiology textbook to review the normal respiratoryanatomy and physiology. (This material will not be covered in this section – it is assumed knowledge asit is taught at undergraduate level, so please familiarise yourself with the content.)If necessary discuss any areas of concern with the participant.ACTIVITY 5Name five mechanisms of injury that may require application of a stiff neck collar. Identify the typesof collars you have available in your facility and how they are applied.Head injury.Diving accident.Motor vehicle accident. Spear tackles/sporting injuriesUnwitnessed fall/fall.Types of collars: discuss with participant those in your facility and correct application.ACTIVITY 6Name three indications for bag-valve-mask (BVM) ventilation.Failure of ventilation.Failure of oxygenation.Failed intubation.ACTIVITY 7Name two contraindications for BVM ventilation.BVM ventilation is absolutely contraindicated in the presence of complete upper airway obstruction.BVM ventilation is relatively contraindicated after paralysis and induction (because of the increasedrisk of aspiration).Discuss with participant.
