SKIING REGULATIONS7.1 GENERAL7.1.1 General Skiing RulesCompetitors must ski the stipulated <strong>competition</strong> course in the correctsequence <strong>and</strong> direction on skis, carrying their rifle <strong>and</strong> the requirednumber of rounds, <strong>and</strong> following the marked course precisely. They mayuse no other form of propulsion than skis, poles <strong>and</strong> their own muscularforce. All skiing techniques are permitted. Since they are required fortiming <strong>and</strong> other measuring purposes, competitors must carry theelectronic transponder device(s) provided by the <strong>event</strong> timing firm,during the <strong>competition</strong>, attached to one or both ankles as directed. Thetransponder may not be removed until the official removal place afterthe <strong>competition</strong>. The transponder must be of such design that it doesnot interfere with the competitors’ movements in the <strong>competition</strong>. Themaximum weight of each transponder may not exceed 25 g.7.1.1.1 Did Not FinishIf competitors withdraw from the <strong>competition</strong> before the finish, theymust inform the first official they meet <strong>and</strong> they are responsiblefor returning the transponders <strong>and</strong> the start number to the finishequipment/materials <strong>and</strong> clothing inspection area as soon as possible<strong>and</strong> performing the required safety check.7.1.2 Carrying RiflesRifles must be carried on the competitor’s back, with the barrel pointingup. If the rifle becomes so damaged during the <strong>competition</strong> that itcannot be carried on the competitor’s back, it must be safely carried inh<strong>and</strong> to the shooting range <strong>and</strong> then must be immediately exchanged forthe team reserve rifle.7.1.3 Wrong Course SectionIf competitors ski on a wrong course section, or the wrong sequence,they must return to the point where they made the wrong turn, alongthe part of the course they have skied in error. In order to do so, thecompetitors may have to ski against the correct ski direction <strong>and</strong> willbe fully responsible for ensuring that they do not obstruct or endangerother competitors. There will be no penalty for having committed theerror as long as no other competitors have been impeded.IBU RULES 3-57
