IBU EVENT AND COMPETITION RULES 36.4.2.1 Pursuit CompetitionEach competitor’s start time is the time listed in the start list. In the<strong>event</strong> of an early start, the competitor will be penalized or disqualifiedaccording to the appropriate disciplinary rule. If a competitor arrives toolate at a start, the late competitor must be directed through the sparepassage, <strong>and</strong> the official at that point will record the exact time whenthe competitor crosses the start line. If competitors were late by theirown or their team’s fault, their <strong>competition</strong> time will be calculated fromtheir official start time in the start list. If the cause of the delay wasforce majeure or incorrect or accidental actions of someone outsidetheir team, their <strong>competition</strong> time <strong>and</strong> placement in the Pursuit will becalculated from the time recorded by the official.6.4.3 Relay <strong>and</strong> Mass Start Competitions <strong>and</strong> Sprint Competitions withGroup StartsThe start time is the time when the start signal sounds.6.4.4 H<strong>and</strong>-Over Zone Start TimeThe start time of the relay team member who is taking over is themoment when the incoming team member enters the h<strong>and</strong>-over zoneby crossing the timing line at the beginning of the zone.6.4.5 Early Start – Individual <strong>and</strong> Relay TeamsIf a competitor starts too early start in an Individual <strong>competition</strong> or inthe h<strong>and</strong>-over zone, the starter’s assistant must stop the competitor asquickly as possible after the start line or the h<strong>and</strong>-over zone <strong>and</strong> sendhim back. The competitor must then return to behind the start line – orto the h<strong>and</strong>-over zone in Relay <strong>competition</strong>s – <strong>and</strong> start again. If possiblethe competitors will be restarted at their correct start time eitherthrough the gate or over the start line using manual timing (except inthe Relay). If the correct start time has already expired, the time of startwill revert to the listed start time. Time thus lost will count against thecompetitor.6.4.6 False Start – Simultaneous, Group <strong>and</strong> H<strong>and</strong>-OverIf there is a false start during a simultaneous or group start, the IR <strong>and</strong>officials in charge will stop the competitors at the end of the set paralleltracks <strong>and</strong> the competitors must start again.If the Relay h<strong>and</strong>-over occurs before or after (outside) the h<strong>and</strong>-overzone, it will be considered a false start <strong>and</strong> the procedure must beIBU RULES 3-53
