IBU EVENT AND COMPETITION RULES 33.2.4 Relay, Group <strong>and</strong> Mass Start Competition Start AreaThe start area must be laid out in such a way that all the competitors arerequired to ski the same distance until they reach the common course.A minimum of ten straight, parallel sets of tracks, with a minimum of1.2 m between each set of tracks (measured from center to center),must be set for a minimum of 30 m from the start line. The number ofstart tracks will depend on the space available <strong>and</strong> the number of relayteams entered, with the objective of having the fewest possible startrows. If there is more than one start row, the distance between rowsmust be 5 m. The end of the parallel tracks must be clearly marked.After the first parallel-tracked section there must be a further 50 m ofstraight, level <strong>and</strong> smoothly groomed, trackless, gradually convergingarea that leads to the <strong>competition</strong> course.3.2.4.1 Start Position Boards – Relay/Mixed Relay, Group <strong>and</strong> Mass Start<strong>competition</strong>The start positions must be marked with numbers. There must be thesame number of boards as the number of starters in the <strong>competition</strong>.The size of the board must be 20 x 20 cm. The number boards must beplaced on the left of each position <strong>and</strong> the number must be readablefrom the front <strong>and</strong> the rear. The numbers on the boards must be at least10 cm high <strong>and</strong> must be highly visible to the competitors <strong>and</strong> TV. Thestart lanes must be numbered from the competitors’ right to left.3.2.5 Super Sprint Start AreaThe distances between the starting rows must be five meters, with threemeters between the starting lanes. The start lanes must extend 20 mforward from the start line <strong>and</strong> competitors must remain in their laneuntil it ends. The start lanes must be numbered from the competitors’right to left.3.2.6 Course Information BoardsThere must be a board at the entrance to the start area on which thecourse map shows the color sequence for the <strong>competition</strong>.3.2.7 Start ClocksAt the start area for Individual <strong>and</strong> Sprint <strong>competition</strong>s, there must bea start clock placed so that it is easily readable from the start line. Thedisplay of the clock <strong>and</strong> the sound signal must be synchronized. For thePursuit <strong>competition</strong>s, there must be a start clock on the left <strong>and</strong> rightIBU RULES 3-33
