IBU EVENT AND COMPETITION RULES 31.6.4.3 Assignment of Start Numbers <strong>and</strong> Start Times in the Pursuit CompetitionNo draw will be conducted for the Pursuit <strong>competition</strong>. Competitorswill be assigned start numbers <strong>and</strong> times based on the results of thequalifying <strong>competition</strong>, which may be an Individual, Sprint or Mass Start<strong>competition</strong> as stated in the invitation. Competitors in the Pursuit willstart in the same order in which they finished the qualifying <strong>competition</strong>:the winner of the qualifying <strong>competition</strong> will start first with start number1; the athlete placed second in the qualifying <strong>competition</strong> will startsecond with start number 2, <strong>and</strong> so on. Start positions will be numberedfrom right to left, facing the direction of the start. The winner of thequalifying <strong>competition</strong> will have a start time of zero (0) which will beshown on the start list as the clock time for the start of the Pursuit<strong>competition</strong>. The remaining competitors in the Pursuit <strong>competition</strong> willhave as their start time the actual time by which they were behind thewinner in the Sprint or Mass Start <strong>competition</strong> or – in the Individual –one half of the time behind the winner, expressed in time behind to thenearest full second. Start lists will be produced based on the foregoingresults, <strong>and</strong> must show which start lane has been assigned to eachcompetitor. If there is a tie for 60th place in the qualifying <strong>competition</strong>,both of the tied competitors will be allowed to start in the Pursuit.In all IBU <strong>event</strong>s’ Pursuit <strong>competition</strong>s, all competitors whose starttimes are more than four minutes after the leader’s start time will bestarted simultaneously four minutes after the first start, but their actual<strong>competition</strong> times will show their times calculated from their actualstart times in the qualifying <strong>competition</strong>.1.6.4.4 Assignment of Start Numbers <strong>and</strong> Start Positions Mass Start CompetitionA provisional start list will be made within two hours after the lastqualifying <strong>competition</strong>. The start list will be finalized two hours before thestart, by which time team captains must have confirmed their starters.Start numbers at WCH <strong>and</strong> WC <strong>event</strong>s will be assigned according to theapplicable <strong>event</strong> <strong>rules</strong>. At all other <strong>event</strong>s, if no appropriate rankinglist is in force, a single r<strong>and</strong>om draw will be used to assign the startnumbers for all competitors. There may not be more competitors thanthe number of targets available. Each competitor’s start number willdesignate their start position in that <strong>competition</strong>.
