IBU EVENT AND COMPETITION RULES 31.6.3.1 Normal Assignment of Competitors into Draw GroupsWhen submitting their entries, team captains must assign onecompetitor to each of the draw groups. If a team consists of fewercompetitors than the number of draw groups, the team captains willdecide which groups they will place their competitors in (one in eachgroup chosen). If a team consists of more competitors than the numberof draw groups, the extra competitors will be added to the draw groupsat the team captain’s discretion, one to each group, repeating thisprocedure until all the team’s competitors have been placed.1.6.4 Normal Draw for Individual <strong>and</strong> Sprint CompetitionsGenerally, there are four start groups at all IBU <strong>competition</strong>s. Thestarting order will be decided by r<strong>and</strong>omly drawing the names ofcompetitors from the draw groups into which they have been assignedby their team captains <strong>and</strong> by r<strong>and</strong>omly drawing the start number foreach competitor. The draw will be held separately for each group in thissequence: group 1, group 2, group 3, <strong>and</strong> group 4. If the draw in theIndividual or Sprint <strong>competition</strong> has 60 or less competitors, the draw willbe done in three groups. If there are 40 or less than the draw will be donein two groups following the same principle as for the four draw groups.1.6.4.1 Start group system for WC, WCH <strong>and</strong> OWG:a. At WCs, competitors must be entered in draw groups as describedin 1.6.3.1 above. The top-10 ranked competitors from the current WCtotal score may be placed in any draw group. However, a NF maynot place more than three competitors in any one of the four drawgroups.Additionally, unranked competitors <strong>and</strong>/or those ranked outside themaximum of top 80 in the current World Cup total score may onlybe entered in draw groups 3 <strong>and</strong> 4. For the first World Cup <strong>event</strong> ofthe season, the World Cup total score from the previous season willapply. For the remaining World Cup <strong>event</strong>s the current World Cuptotal score will apply. In the <strong>event</strong> that a top-80 ranked competitorfrom the last year’s WC total score does not participate in the firstWC, that competitor will have the option of being drawn in groups1 or 2 in WC 2. In the case of extraordinary weather conditions, thejury may suspend the requirement for unranked competitors <strong>and</strong>competitors ranked outside the maximum of top 80 to start in groupsIBU RULES 3-19
