European Flight Planning
Operating within Europe can be
difficult from a flight planning
perspective. Fortunately, Jeppesen
has a number of features within its
JetPlan ® -based applications to assist
you in simplifying the process.
The complex airway structure in
Europe is managed by the
European Organization for the
Safety of Air Navigation
(EUROCONTROL). In an effort to
better utilize the congested
airspace, EUROCONTROL has
strict routing requirements that
must be followed. Flights operating
within the General Air Traffic (GAT)
airspace need to be able to flight
plan efficiently and utilize
compliant routing and altitudes.
The routing requirements for
Europe are outlined in the Route
Availability Document (RAD). This
is the source of all routes to be
flown within Europe for flights
operating above FL 245.
Getting an air traffic control (ATC)
flight plan accepted by
EUROCONTROL can be a
frustration for crews, especially if
they are away from their home base
and without access to charts or
other flight planning tools. With
this in mind, Jeppesen created the
European Route Availability
Document (ERAD) functionality
within its premier flight planning
engine, JetPlan. The goal is to make
the lives of aircrews easier by
reducing the effort required to
obtain a first time ATC flyable
flight plan.
To accomplish this, Jeppesen
developed functionality within
the JetPlan engine to import
and process the published
EUROCONTROL RAD annexes,
and apply the relevant rules and
restrictions during the computation
of the flight plan. At the same time,
fuel optimization is still considered,
so RAD compliance is not at the
expense of economy.
Both the JetPlan.com and
JetPlanner applications provide the
user with an easy method to access
the ERAD functionality.
For JetPlan.com, select the radio
button on the flight planning applet
to enable the ERAD option.
2
JetPlan.com
For JetPlanner, simply check the
box on the flight planning request
window labeled “Include ERAD.”
JetPlanner
After running your flight plan, it is
always a good idea to test file it
with the EUROCONTROL’s Central
Flow Management Unit (CFMU)
system to ensure it is accepted by
ATC on the day of your flight. This
can be done on JetPlan.com by
selecting the CFMU Validation
option from the drop-down menu
on the flight plan or the Dispatch
Center screen.
JetPlan.com
In conjunction with the Jeppesen
Preferred Departure and Arrival
Procedures (PDAP) Database,
which allows JetPlan to factor in
unique terminal airspace dynamics,
the ERAD functionality has
advanced computerized flight
planning. Jeppesen is confident
its customers operating within
Europe will greatly benefit from
this new feature. For more
information, please contact your
Account Manager.
Jeppesen Global Account Management Team
Exceptional Resources to Deliver World-Class Customer Service
Jeppesen Global Account Managers
Arun Sharma, Dave Ancora, and
Will Lott, who form the San Jose,
California customer service team,
are dedicated to ensuring business
aviation customer satisfaction
across all products and services.
Each manager serves as the single
point of contact for customers
within a defined geographic
region. Clients deal directly,
and exclusively, with their
assigned Global Account Manager,
making for simple, direct, and
streamlined access to all
customer-specific concerns.
The Global Account Management
team employs the latest tools in
order to enhance and ensure a
positive customer experience with
Jeppesen. The new, proprietary Trip
Cost Estimator provides quick,
accurate, and complete fee
information for international trips
operated under both private and
In addition to its Global Account
Management Team, Jeppesen
recognizes that certain customers
may require a dedicated, single
point-of-contact, customer service
resource to better serve their
non-scheduled commercial flight
rules. The Jeppesen World Fuel
Services’ Fuel Availability / Price
Quoting System allows direct
customer access to competitive jet
fuel pricing on a worldwide basis.
The team is particularly excited
about the upcoming addition
of the WebEx web-conferencing
technology to better assist and
educate customers on two of its
more popular flight planning
products: the Internet-based
JetPlan.com and PC-based
JetPlanner applications. The
WebEx tool represents the latest
A More Focused Approach
operational needs. With this in
mind, Jeppesen created the role of
Strategic Account Manager.
Jeppesen hired Sally Swanson as
the first of several Strategic
Account Managers. She is
responsible for managing
relationships and business with
Jeppesen’s large fractional
customer accounts. Sally has
progressive experience working
with large, multinational clients,
and brings more than 12 years of
sales management, marketing, and
business development experience to
Jeppesen. Previously, Sally worked
3
in remote-site customer assistance
by allowing direct and seamless
access to a customer’s PC. This
new tool facilitates the training
experience, while at the same
time allows the operator to
avoid the time commitment and
expenses usually associated with
on-site training.
The Global Account Management
team is ready, and well-resourced
to consistently deliver a truly
exceptional customer service
experience encompassing the entire
suite of Jeppesen Business Aviation
products and services. The team
Update on Moscow Airports
Please be advised that effective 01
January 2006, the Airport Authority at
Moscow Vnukovo (UUWW) will be
making all listed services mandatory,
regardless of the actual requirements
for a specific flight. Also, the Airport
Authority will be increasing all fees by
another 30 percent; this will make
Vnukovo the most expensive airport
in Europe for business aviation.
Alternatives to Vnukovo include
Domodedovo (UUDD), while less
expensive, it is another 30 minutes
driving time to downtown Moscow,
and Sheremetyevo (UUEE), which is a
hub airport for Aeroflot with minimal
facilities for VIP passengers. Please
contact Jeppesen ITP for more
information when planning your
next trip to the Moscow area.
Jeppesen Adds Ad Hoc
NOTAM Filtering Capability
Recently, Jeppesen added the
ability to apply a NOTAM filter to
ad hoc NOTAM requests through
the JetPlan.com interface. The
capability will be added to the
JetPlanner software in the near
future. Users have been able to
apply NOTAM filtering for en route
weather requests for quite some
time, but now have the ability to
apply them for individual airport
and FIR NOTAM requests.
NOTAM filters can be created,
modified and deleted using
JetPlan.com through the “Customer
Database” section. By selecting
JetPlan.com Change NOTAM Filter
“WXE” within the database section,
users can then select “NOTAM
Filters” to create a new filter, or
modify or delete an existing filter.
When creating a filter, users can
manage the NOTAM data that they
4
JetPlan.com Apply NOTAM Filter
receive by selecting the desired
NOTAM types and “Q-Codes”.
Users can also filter on altitude
range and days of the week
of operation. This can help an
operator sort through much
of the non-pertinent NOTAM
information and focus on the
information most relevant to the
current operation.
Once a filter has been established,
it can be applied to a NOTAM
request through the JetPlan.com
Airport Weather graphical user
interface (GUI).
This new functionality will reduce
the amount of irrelevant NOTAM
information that you have to
sift through before your next
flight. You can create as many
NOTAM filters as you wish,
so that different filters can
be used for different flights.
For more information or
assistance with using feature,
please contact your Global
Account Manager.
Spotlight: IAM Jet Centre, Barbados
The island of
Barbados remains
a very popular
vacation spot for
high-end tourism,
and boasts some
of the world’s finest five-star resorts
and villas along its beautiful
coastline. Indeed, Barbados was
one of only a few destinations
worldwide to maintain regular service
from British Airways Concorde for
over 20 years until its retirement in
2003. With this upscale market in
mind, the International Aircraft
Management (IAM) Jet Centre was
opened in December, 2004 at
Grantley Adams International
Airport (TBPB). The two-story, 6,000
square foot facility was completed
after 12 months of construction,
and is designed to offer a
comprehensive range of passenger
and crew amenities with the same
style and standards of an elegant,
five-star hotel. These features
include exclusive in-house Customs
and Immigration, private conference
rooms, plush passenger and crew
lounges, shower facilities, high
speed Internet service, state-of-the-art
x-ray and electronic security screening
capabilities, and controlled access
to ensure the ultimate privacy of
their guests.
Guests arriving on multi-million
dollar private jets to stay at elite
resorts and villas can have an equally
comfortable experience at the airport.
Every service offered by IAM is
aimed towards its customers and
how they can best serve their needs.
Their customer-centric focus and
passion about service is a prime
reason why Jeppesen is proud to
have IAM as a member of its
Preferred Handler Network.
The idea to develop a fixed based
operator (FBO) in Barbados goes
back to the establishment of IAM,
Inc., by former Eastern Airlines
executive Paul Worrell in 1989. In a
region of the world where dedicated
VIP service for business aircraft
was virtually non-existent, IAM saw
an opportunity to provide reliable
and focused handling services to
this growing market. Not long
after starting the business, IAM
was assisting aircraft in several
neighboring islands through the
development of a network of local
agents trained and supervised by
the Barbados team. Today, the IAM
Caribbean network extends across
the Caribbean from the Bahamas
out-islands in the north to Trinidad
and Guyana in the far south, covering
some 65 airports in the region. By
2003, IAM determined the “critical
mass” required for a successful
FBO business model in Barbados
was achieved and the project went
forward. The decision to proceed
included the growth of the market
over the years, the depth of local
expertise acquired by IAM which is
unique to the region, and a strong
business reputation and track
record in Barbados that could be
demonstrated to local government
and financial institutions.
Last year, in time for the busy
Caribbean winter season, the IAM
Jet Centre began 24-hour operations.
The positive feedback from
passengers and crew alike was
immediate. Now with its second
winter season in full swing, the
new facility certainly enhances IAM’s
reputation for its comprehensive
handling and fuel services.
In addition to IAM’s primary
business aviation role, the new
facility also provides special
premium services for British
traveling to London can check-in at
