MORRIS AND HELEN BELKIN ART GALLERY, VANCOUVER BC – through Dec 10 Iain Baxter&, bornin England in 1946, is one of Canada’s best known conceptual artists. He has an extensivebackground not only as a photographer but as a painter, videographer, installation and performanceartist, writer and faculty member at the University of Windsor. He was among the first artists to usePolaroid film, faxes and computers in his artwork. Baxter& received the Order of Canada (2003),Governor General’s Award (2004), Order ofOntario (2004), Molson Prize (2005), and theGershon Iskowitz Foundation Prize (2006).Baxter&'s current exhibition, PassingThrough, is curated by James Patten andcirculated by the Art Gallery of Windsor, Ontario.It includes colour prints, Polaroids and duratrans(backlit posters). Like other young people of hisgeneration, Baxter& took several road tripsacross Canada as a rite of passage in the 60s and70s.
