Chris Anderson: TimepiecesBELLEVUE GALLERY, WEST VANCOUVER BC – Dec 6, 2006-Jan 7, 2007 Timepieces by Americanartist Chris Anderson consists of a series of mixed-media paintings on paper. The metaphor for eachimage is a clock, with a small square signifying the “hand”rotating around the perimeter. Anderson actually sets the timewhen she begins each piece, then engrosses herself in the processof experimentation with materials, patterns, textures and colourrelationships. The artist writes, “These paintings appear as abstractions atfirst glance, but they are for me a very real visual diary… Eachpiece recalls the place in which I made the work, the worldoutside my studio, the time of day, the light, the sounds, and myown state of mind and heart – both spiritually and emotionally.”At 29.5" × 41.5" each, the paintings would allow extensivecompositional detail, but Anderson manages to keep each onesimple and streamlined.Anderson currently teaches at the Pratt Institute of Art inNew York, where she once studied. She also holds a Bachelor ofArts from Scripps College in Claremont, California and an MFAfrom Claremont Graduate University. From 1996 to 1998,Anderson worked as a Fulbright Senior Scholar in Berlin. She hasbeen the recipient of grants from The National Endowment forthe Arts, New York Foundation for the Arts, Artists Space,previewwww.bellevuegallery.caChris Anderson, Small Clocks (2006), mixedmedia [Bellevue Gallery, West Vancouver BC,Dec 6-Jan 7, 2007]Ludwig Vogelstein Foundation, New York State Council on the Arts (CAPS Grant), and The Councilfor International Exchange of Scholars (Fulbright), among many others.
