Such arrangements help to cement our positionas an organisation that’s seriously committed to our corporatesocial responsibility.Education Partnerships<strong>FirstCaribbean</strong> President’s Scholars to GraduateThe <strong>Bank</strong> is proud that the first awardees of the College ofThe <strong>Bahamas</strong>’ President’s Scholars Programme (PSP) are setto graduate in 2010. <strong>FirstCaribbean</strong> is a major sponsor ofthe programme since 2006. The PSP awardees are grantedfull four-year scholarships, with stipends for books andfunding for special activities, such as local and internationalleadership conferences and field trips abroad included intheir programme of study. Through scholarships, mentoringand on-the-job training of awardees, the <strong>Bank</strong> facilitates thedevelopment of these future national leaders.Through the <strong>Bahamas</strong> National TrustYouth Learn About Environmental StewardshipThe <strong>Bank</strong> continues to support the work of The <strong>Bahamas</strong>National Trust (BNT) by its three-year commitment to theDiscovery Club – a BNT after-school programme for youngpersons between the ages of 6 and 12 years.the Year; Executive Advisor Omar Wilkinson placed third forExecutive Advisor of the Year; the <strong>FirstCaribbean</strong> advisoryteam was nominated for Team of the Year; Vice Presidentof Human Resources Elisha Nouguez won VP of HR for theyear; Company President Nikita Williamson won a $4,000scholarship to St. Leo’s University and also won the Award ofExcellence as Assistant VP of Special Projects for the AchieversAssociation; and Dorian Stubbs won the Centre Manager’sAward.In addition to sponsoring a JA company, the <strong>Bank</strong> alsosupports Junior Achievement <strong>Bahamas</strong> by providing anannual scholarship to a Distinguished Achiever.ADOPT-A-CAUSE<strong>FirstCaribbean</strong> TCI Adopts Children’s Home<strong>FirstCaribbean</strong> in the Turks & Caicos Islands providedfinancial support to the Provo Children’s Home, a facilitymeant to provide a safe, secure, nurturing and loving homeenvironment for children in need of care and protection.<strong>FirstCaribbean</strong> employees have also pledged to work closelywith the home to assist the children in several areas, includingreading with them and engaging in outdoor activities.In support of Earth Day, a <strong>FirstCaribbean</strong> five-member teamjoined Discovery Club members at the BNT, and togetherthey planted about 800 mahogany trees. Several studentseagerly got their hands dirtied as they planted the seeds inanticipation of watching them grow, as part of their DiscoveryClub experience.<strong>FirstCaribbean</strong> Sponsored “Illusions” On Winners’ RowIt’s been one year since <strong>FirstCaribbean</strong> <strong>Bahamas</strong> rejoinedJunior Achievement <strong>Bahamas</strong> and its sponsored company,Illusions, earned lots of accolades at the close of the JA yearin 2009. llusions won fifth place in the Overall Company of<strong>FirstCaribbean</strong> Palmdale BranchBeautifies Palmdale Primary SchoolThe Palmdale Branch team partnered with teachers of itsadopted school – Palmdale Primary School – to beautify theschool’s campus. They gave the gardens a splash of colour,enhanced the environment and created an atmosphere thattoday makes students, teachers and visitors to the schoolproud. “The turnout of both <strong>FirstCaribbean</strong> and PalmdalePrimary staff was a great indicator of the emphasis placed onthe students’ well-being,” said Branch Manager Paul Bartlett.“The hard work and camaraderie was infectious, and theresult was absolutely amazing, well worth the time and effortput into the project.”Palmdale branch adopted the school in 2005 and continuesto make a difference. Notably, they read to students everyWednesday afternoon, an initiative done in conjunction withthe Ministry of Education and the American Embassy.7
