The Italian Institute <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> Navigati<strong>on</strong> (IIN) (www.iin.it) is also a n<strong>on</strong>-pr<str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g>it makingorganizati<strong>on</strong> <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> public interest. The institute was founded in 1959. Its main objectives are topromote <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> development <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> navigati<strong>on</strong> sciences and technologies and disseminate <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> knowledgerelated to such fields.304. To <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g>se aims, <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> Institute fosters co-operati<strong>on</strong> between end users, industries andresearch institutes.305. The Italian Institute <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> Navigati<strong>on</strong> takes active participati<strong>on</strong> in European andInternati<strong>on</strong>al initiatives in <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> field <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> navigati<strong>on</strong>. It is a member <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> European Group <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g>Institutes <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> Navigati<strong>on</strong> (EUGIN), and also <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> Internati<strong>on</strong>al Associati<strong>on</strong> <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> Institutes <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g>Navigati<strong>on</strong> (IAIN). The Institute takes active participati<strong>on</strong> in <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> works <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> ICAO and IMO.306. The Italian Institute <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> Navigati<strong>on</strong> actively promotes c<strong>on</strong>ferences in relati<strong>on</strong> to navigati<strong>on</strong>every year.Korea GNSS Technology Council (GTC)Republic <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> Korea307. With <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> support <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> Korea’s Ministry <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> Informati<strong>on</strong> and Communicati<strong>on</strong>, <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> Korea GTC wasorganised in 1994 by individual experts from many universities, research instituti<strong>on</strong>s, and industriesassociated with GNSS technology to promote <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> exchange <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> academic and technical informati<strong>on</strong> andto support research and development activities with respect to GNSS technology.308. GTC has hosted annual nati<strong>on</strong>al c<strong>on</strong>ferences entitled “GPS workshop” where technical andpolicy issues <strong>on</strong> <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> essence <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> GNSS technology and its wide applicati<strong>on</strong>s are presented anddiscussed. In additi<strong>on</strong>, tutorial sessi<strong>on</strong>s <strong>on</strong> <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> fundamentals <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> GNSS including GPS, DGPS, GPSreceivers technologies have been <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g>fered.309. GTC has also organised since 1999, <strong>on</strong> an yearly basis, <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> “Internati<strong>on</strong>al Symposium <strong>on</strong>GPS/GNSS” in order to promote internati<strong>on</strong>al co-operati<strong>on</strong>. GTC also agreed to co-host anannual internati<strong>on</strong>al symposium with Japan and <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> People’s Republic <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> China in 2001, for <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g>purpose <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> promoting awareness with respect to GNSS-related activities, especially in <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> FarEast Asia regi<strong>on</strong>, and increase informati<strong>on</strong> exchange for GNSS experts and decisi<strong>on</strong>-makers. Inadditi<strong>on</strong>, <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> Far East Asia regi<strong>on</strong>al symposiums have been held in Korea (2001), People’sRepublic <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> China (2002) and Japan (2003).54
