Ten percent of women and 15 percent of men have attained the level of secondary orhigher education. Men are more likely to be educated than women. The proportion of women with noeducation is almost twice that of men (21 and 12 percent, respectively).Education varies by urban-rural residence. Women in urban areas have more opportunities togo to school than women in rural areas. For example, 9 percent of urban women have no educationcompared with 26 percent of rural women. This variation may, in part, reflect the predominantlyurban locations of education facilities. There are small differences between Zanzibar and the Mainland at the lower education levels. But larger disparities are seen among respondents who completed primary or attended highereducation. Overall, 46 percent of women and 53 percent of men in Zanzibar have received secondaryor higher education, compared with 8 percent of women and 13 percent of men in Mainland Tanzania.Characteristics of Respondents | 23
