In <strong>Tanzania</strong>, the poverty monitoringmaster plan has identified some indicators as nonincomeproxies of poverty. These indicators includethe ownership of selected household durable items thatshow a strong correlation with the economic status ofthe household.The availability of durable possessions goodsis a good indicator of a household’s socio-economicstatus. Moreover, each particular item has specificbenefits. For instance, having access to a radio or atelevision exposes household members to innovativeideas; a refrigerator prolongs the wholesomeness offoods; <strong>and</strong> a means of transport allows greater accessto many services away from the local area.
