Indeterminate means that the sample went through the entire algorithm, but thefinal result was inconclusive.2Includes: 1) other results of blood collection (e.g., technical problem in the field), 2) lost specimens,3) non-corresponding bar codes, and 4) other lab results such as blood not tested for technical reason, notenough blood to complete the algorithm, etc.Table 9.2 shows coverage of HIV testing by background characteristics. The data show thatresponse rates among women are remarkably consistent across age groups, while among men, theyshow a U-shaped pattern, being highest among those aged 15-19 and 45-49. There is no clear patternby education. However, with respect to wealth quintile, both women and men in the highest quintilewere less likely to provide samples for HIV testing than those in the lower quintiles. In almost everycategory of background characteristics, women were more likely to be tested than men.Coverage of HIV testing in the 2007-08 THMIS is higher than that in the 2003–04 THIS,increasing from 84 to 90 percent for women and from 77 to 80 percent for men in Mainland Tanzania.HIV Prevalence | 113
