Figure 7.2 Prior <strong>HIV</strong> Testing by Education5250474440302830322019 1910060 Percent Women MenNo education Primary incomplete Primary complete Secondary+EducationTHMIS 2007-08In the 2007-08 THMIS, women age 15-49 who gave birth in the two years preceding thesurvey were asked if they received <strong>HIV</strong> counselling <strong>and</strong> were offered <strong>HIV</strong> testing during antenatalcare for their most recent birth <strong>and</strong> if so, whether they received their test results. <strong>Survey</strong> results showthat 43 percent of women were counselled for <strong>HIV</strong> during antenatal care. The same percentage wereoffered <strong>and</strong> accepted an <strong>HIV</strong> test <strong>and</strong> received their test results, while 6 percent accepted an <strong>HIV</strong> testbut did not receive their test results (Table 7.6). Overall, 30 percent of women who gave birth in thetwo years before the survey were counselled about <strong>HIV</strong> during antenatal care, were offered <strong>and</strong>accepted an <strong>HIV</strong> test, <strong>and</strong> received the results of that test.Women in urban areas were more than twice as likely as women in rural areas to have beencounselled, tested, <strong>and</strong> given their <strong>HIV</strong> results during antenatal care. <strong>HIV</strong> counselling <strong>and</strong> testingduring antenatal care visits varies by education <strong>and</strong> wealth. Mothers with secondary <strong>and</strong> highereducation are more than three times as likely as those with no education to have been counselled,tested, <strong>and</strong> given their results (59 <strong>and</strong> 18 percent, respectively).
