APPENDIX – IIMODALITIES OF SUBMISSION OF HOME ASSIGNMENTS AND TERM ENDEXAMINATIONSHOME ASSIGNMENTSAssigements constitute the continuous evaluation, therefore, its submission is compulsory. The Marks inthe Home Assignments (HA) will be counted in the final result. Assignments of a course carry 20%weightage while 80% weightage is given to the Term-end Examination. Therefore, it is advised to take theassignments seriously. The student will not be allowed to appear for Term-end Examination for the courseif s/he does not submit the minimum number of assignments in time for that course. The main purpose of assignments is to test the comprehension of the learning material and also to help thestudent through the course. The information given in the printed course materials should be sufficient foranswering the assignments. However, if one has easy access to other books, s/he may make use of them. But the assignments are designed in such a way as to help to concentrate mainly on the printed coursematerials. Home assignments can be downloaded from the University website: vmou.ac.inHome Assignments (HA) are generally evaluated by the Counsellor. The assignments should be completein all respects. Before submission the student should ensure that he has answered all the questions in allassignments. Incomplete answer sheets bring poor marks. The student has to submit response sheets tothe concerned Study Centre assigned to him. It is advised to submit the assignments before the due date.If the student does not get minimum qualifying marks in an assignment, s/he has to re-submit the assignments. However, once s/he gets the pass marks in an assignment, s/he cannot re-submit it for improvement ofmarks. Assignments are not subject to re-valuation except for factual errors, if any.In case the student finds that the marks of assignments are not entered in his/her marksheet, s/he is advisedto contact the Study Centre with a request to forward correct award list to the Examination Unit at theHeadquarter. Make some points regarding the questionand then rearrange those points in a logical order and draw up a rough outline of the answers. While answering an essay type question give adequate attention to introduction and conclusion. The introduction must offer a brief interpretation of the question and the way how one proposes todevelop it. The conclusion must summarise the response to the question. Make sure that theanswer is logical and coherent and has clear connection between sentences and paragraphs. The10

answer should be relevant to the question given in the assignment. Make sure that all the mainpoints of the question have been attempted. Once satisfied with the answer, write down the finalversion neatly and underline the points that are to be emphasised. While solving numericals useproper format and give working notes wherever necessary.5. Use only fullscap size paper for your responses and tie all the pages carefully. Avoid using verythin paper. Allow a 4 cm margin on the left and at least 4 lines in between each answer. This mayfacilitate the evaluator to write useful comments in the margins at appropriate place.6. The response should be written in the student’s own hand writing. Do not print or type answers.Do not copy the answer from the units/blocks sent by the University. If the copying is noticed, thestudent will get zero marks for the respective question.7. Do not copy from response sheets of other students.
