This kind of personal relationship with andrespect for political adversaries declined after the party <strong>com</strong>petitiongrew more intense.Thus this first phase of democratic politics in our country wasquite unique. The inclusive character of the national movement ledby the Congress enabled it to attract different sections, groups andinterests making it a broad based social and ideological coalition.
