We are also pleased to introducethe Library’s new document delivery system,Loansome Doc, a service that can deliver articlesfrom the dental literature right to your door.Loansome Doc is a module of the NationalLibrary of Medicine’s PubMed search system.PubMed allows users to search MEDLINE, a databasecovering dentistry, medicine, nursing, health caresystems, and preclinical sciences, with over 14million citations from more than 4,800 biomedicaljournals published throughout the world.By using Loansome Doc, dental healthprofessionals can place orders for articles from theLSUSD Library as they search the dental literatureusing MEDLINE through PubMed. Requests areautomatically forwarded to the LSUSD Library to befilled and sent through the mail or fax. 1Signing up to use Loansome is a simple two-stepprocess:• Register with the LSUSD Library. (Contact us at(504) 941-8158 or e-mail dentlib@lsuhsc.edufor the necessary paperwork.)• Register with NLM on the PubMed site(http://pubmed.gov – click on “OrderDocuments” towards the bottom of the lefthand column)After registration is complete, users can search theliterature, select articles, and place an order. Articleswill be filled by the LSUHSC Libraries for the usualfee of $9 per article. Loansome Doc users have theoption to allow the Library to forward any requestthat is not filled by the LSUHSC Libraries to anotherlibrary. Additional fees may be incurred if anotherlibrary fills the request. If the requester chooses notto have the requests forwarded, they will be canceledand no charge will be assessed.t1Hoyle J.
