Pamela’s Top 10 Plant Picks for Lechuza Planters
Great color, spring
required. Sun or
shade.
Blooms all season
in warm areas.
Attractive, trailing
plant. Loves sun.
with very little time or effort. The most time-consuming task
in container gardening is watering. Lechuza planters use 25
to 50% less water than traditional planters, which means
gardeners can spend less time watering their plants.
SIMPLE AND EASY
4
“Lechuza planters are the first I have worked with that are
self-watering, hydrating themselves from a reservoir
underneath the plant’s rootball. I was pleasantly surprised
to learn how seldom I had to water them.
Let Lechuza Care for your Plants.
Saves time.
Requires no green thumb.
Thriving plants with little work.
Watering takes more time than any other
container gardening task. With Lechuza planters,
you water less and save time.
Overwatering and underwatering are the two main
causes of plant death. With Lechuza, the plant
waters itself from planter’s reservoir that gardeners
only need to fi ll every once in a while. The ‘Dragon
Wing’ begonias (inset & right) bloomed for a full
eight months with only occasional watering.
HEALTHIER PLANTS
6
“
Wet leaves can cause diseases, such as fungus. Since
Lechuza planters water your plants from below, leaves
stay dry, and your plant stays healthy.
Healthy Edibles on Your Grill Deck
Fresh, healthy edibles for your family.
Mix edibles with fl owers.
Healthy plants mean little need
for pesticides.
Healthy leaves are especially important with herbs.
With Lechuza, the plant controls its water intake,
so it absorbs the amount it needs, ensuring healthy
herbs throughout the season. This granite
BALCONERA 50 (right) is growing above our grill. Be
sure to move the grill away from the planter or walls
“Container plants need water on their roots, not their leaves.
A popular herb used mainly in Italian food. Extremely
easy to grow. Like most herbs, many different types are
available. Sizes range from three to twelve inches tall in
a container. Full sun to light shade in really hot areas.
from tiny to over 3 feet tall. Grow in sun to light shade. Loves
containers - the bigger the better for the larger varieties.
Melampodium
A great, yellow-fl owering container plant. It blooms well all summer
- one of the few annual plants that will. The daisy-like fl owers add
a mass of yellow to any arrangement. Different varieties vary
from six to eighteen inches tall. Sun or light shade.
Rosemary
Rosemary is an herb that is a useful centerpiece because
of its durability and vertical shape. Comes in upright,
spreading, or prostrate forms, so be sure you know what
in really hot areas.
BRIGHT FLOWERS
10
“ The Beauty of Self-Watering
Great looking container gardens don´t have to be
complicated! Designing with just two or three plants
is quite easy. Yellow and red celosia mixed with purple
petunia fill out these Lechuza CILINDRO planters.
Water less.
Perfect for hot climates.
No more worries of over or
underwatering plants.
Lechuza’s big water reservoir lets your plants
decide how much water they need. The water indicator
shows when and how much water to add. The water is then
stored in the reservoir (inset right) below the potting mix,
where the plants use it when needed.
SAVE WATER
12
“Watering five planters (right) requires a lot of time every day.
I was pleasantly surprised to discover that my Lechuza planters
only required watering every three to four days. As you water
less, you also reduce water waste and have more time to
enjoy your garden.
Mums
One of the showiest container plants. I use them frequently
in cooler weather even though they don’t bloom for more
than a month or so. The show they produce is worth it!
Grasses
One of the most useful plants for the centers of containers.
Huge number of varieties on the market, from four
inches to four feet tall in a container. Most like sun, but a
few tolerate shade. Green, variegated, pink or burgundy
leaves.
Coleus
Thousands of varieties available, from six inches to three feet
tall. Use for its leaf color rather than its fl ower color, which lasts
from spring to fall. Little care required. Many colors and patterns
available. Sun or shade varieties are commonly available.
Creeping Jenny
5 Scaevola
Terrifi c trailing plant. Grows all season with little care. Sun or shade.
Grows about two inches tall and hangs three to four feet long in a
Beautiful trailing plant that thrives in containers in hot weather. Wilts
when fi rst planted, but recovers in a week or so. Full sun. Blue, white
or pink. The blue is the strongest variety. Grows up to eighteen inches
down the sides of a container.
EASY VEGETABLES
“
These peppers are my favorite vegetable to grow (right).
Not only do these ‘Mild Bananas’ produce a huge crop, they
also grow in three colors – yellow, orange, and red. In this
Lechuza planter, the peppers thrived with minimal care.
Home Grown and Beautiful
Easy, healthy vegetables.
Huge yields with little work.
Enjoy home-grown vegetables
throughout the growing season.
Self-watering planters produce larger yields
than traditional planters of the same size. This
increase in production is due to Lechuza’s more
effi cient watering system. Vegetables prefer
self-watering planters because they like being
watered from below. With Lechuza planters, your
vegetables get the exact amount of water they need.
‘Mild Banana’ and ‘Yummy Bell’ Peppers
Thousands of varieties available. Plants that feature smaller peppers grow
faster and produce more fruit. ‘Yummy Bell’ and ‘Mild Banana’ are two
great choices. Full sun and warm temperature required. Extremely easy.
WONDERFUL TOMATOES
1
The design of Lechuza TRIO Cottage demonstrates the easiest and most attractive
way to grow tomatoes. Planting tomatoes with a support, like this Trellis with
adjustable cross braces, means you won’t have to do much work to keep them
upright as they grow taller. I planted fl owers around the base of the trellis to add
more variety and color to the arrangement.
‘Husky Cherry Red’ and ‘Patio’ Tomatoes
‘Husky Cherry Red’ and ‘Patio’ are two of the best bets
for containers. The fi rst features small, cherry tomatoes
and the latter larger ones. Be sure to grow in warm
temperatures with at least six hours of sun a day.
““
2 Zinnias
Lots of different varieties, ranging from tiny to as tall as
you are! Some are quite easy, like the ‘Profusion’ series,
but most get fungus with too much heat. I use them
anyway because of the beauty of their fl owers. Like sun.
