The portrait is larger, with more detail
to make it harder to duplicate. In
addition, there is a subtle background
color on both sides.

Security
thread
A polymer
thread to the
left of the
portrait runs
vertically. When
the note is held
up to a light,
the words USA
TWENTY and
a small flag
appear on it.
Also, the
security thread
will glow
green under
ultraviolet light.

Symbols of freedom
Two new symbols of freedom appear on
the front of the note. A large blue eagle
is in the background to the left of the
portrait, and a smaller green metallic
eagle at the lower right.
Color-shifting ink
A special ink is used for the “20” on
the lower right corner of the face.
When you tilt the note, the ink
changes from copper to green. This
color shift is very dramatic.
Microprinting
Microprinted characters are hard to
copy. Here, USA20 borders the first
three letters of the TWENTY USA
ribbon to the right of the portrait.
THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA 20 USA 20
appears in black below the
Treasurer’s signature.

seal. It is part
of the paper
and can be seen

when held up
