Additionally, these longrooms are often quite lean in thebass near the center of the room.Rectangular rooms are still preferredto square rooms because,by having two sets of dissimilarlength walls, standing wavesare not as strongly reinforcedand will dissipate more quicklythan in a square room. In theserooms, the preferred speaker positionfor spatial placement andmidrange resolution would be onthe longer walls. Bass responsewould be reinforced by speakerplacement on the short walls.In many cases, L-shapedrooms (See Figure 4) offer thebest environment for speakersetup. Ideally, speakers shouldbe set up along the primary (longest)leg of the room. They shouldfire from the end of the leg (shortwall) toward the L, or they shouldbe along the longest wall.
