Main Duties andResponsibilities Cont.To initiate contacts with companies that are liable to lead toappropriate KTP programmes, and introduce such opportunities toappropriate academics and Schools/Faculties.To develop and write, in collaboration with academic and the KTPConsultant, high quality proposals <strong>for</strong> KTP programmes which makeappropriate use of University expertiseTo project manage, support and co-ordinate the operation of KTPprogrammes by Schools/Faculties, in particular by ensuring thesmooth fulfilment of TCS Directorate’s administrative and reportingrequirements.To select, support and monitor the development of KTP Graduate,ensuring the supply of training complementary to the KTPDirectorate’s provision and where necessary conduct internal training/networking events.To monitor the process of graduate supervision, both <strong>for</strong> the KTPproject and <strong>for</strong> higher degree completion, and to disseminate goodpractice in both areas.To contribute to the management of the KT Office and to thedevelopment of University strategy in the general area of near marketresearch and consultancy.To carry out other duties at the request of the Dean of the GraduateSchool.This is a description of the job as it is presently constituted. It is normal University practice toreview periodically job descriptions to ensure that they are relevant to the job currently beingper<strong>for</strong>med, and to incorporate any changes which have occurred or are being proposed. Person <strong>Description</strong>The successful candidate <strong>for</strong> this post needs to be a self-starter with an inbuilt desire to buildmutually beneficial links between industry and academia. They will have an understanding ofthe ethos, objectives and current agenda of both business and higher education.It is likely to appeal to someone who has experience of building relationships and/or projectsinvolving more than one discipline or approach. A recent graduate would be unlikely to haveacquired the range of skills needed.Because a majority of the programmes involve the transfer of technological expertise, afamiliarity with or experience of current technologies used in Engineering and Science andservice companies is desirable. Those with a business rather than a science or engineeringbackground are not excluded. It is unlikely, however, that those with a purely academic orresearch background would enjoy the challenges of this post.Imagination and creativity will be often called <strong>for</strong> to conceive the objectives, key tasks andmethodology <strong>for</strong> Research and Development projects which meet the agenda andaspirations of both the commercial and academic partner.Effective Communication with academic staff, businesses and the KTP Directorate is crucial.We would there<strong>for</strong>e be looking <strong>for</strong> well-developed interpersonal and communication skills,both written and oral.Patience and attention to detail is required, as many meetings, involving different parties andmany drafts of a proposal, will usually be needed be<strong>for</strong>e a bid is submitted

In no way do they constitute a contract of employment.(a)SalaryScale 5, £24,820 – £30,739 per annum paid monthly in arrears by credit transfer.Commencing salary will be determined according to qualifications and experience.(b)Hours and Time of DutyThe normal hours of work are 37 hours per week (Monday to Friday) at times asagreed with the Head of Department. If the nature of the work so requires, thejobholder may from time to time be required to attend meetings or do other workoutside normal hours. Remuneration <strong>for</strong> overtime is not payable.(c)HolidayThe holiday year runs from 1 September to 31 August. In addition to the StatutoryBank Holidays, local discretionary holidays, and days when the University is closed inthe interests of efficiency, annual holiday entitlement will be 26 days. If employmentcommences part way through the holiday year, entitlement will accrue on a pro ratabasis <strong>for</strong> each complete calendar month. Holiday entitlements <strong>for</strong> part-time staff willbe calculated according to the number of days and/or hours worked.(d)MedicalUnless otherwise stated, the appointment will be subject to medical clearance.(e)PensionThe jobholder will be eligible to join the Local Government Pension Scheme.(f)Probationary PeriodThe first 6 months of the appointment will be a probationary period during which yoursuitability <strong>for</strong> the position to which you have been appointed will be assessed. TheUniversity reserves the right to extend your probationary period if, in its opinion,circumstances so require.(g)Date of AppointmentThe position is available immediately once all conditions have been met.
