Duration of cultivation<br />

Whereas the genotype had no significant influence on the duration of cultivation, the<br />

effect of the year was considerable. The temperature of all months except May, had<br />

a significant effect on the length of the cultivation period: High and normal temperatures<br />

in June led to a prolongation, whereas high July temperatures decreased the<br />

cultivation period; a deviation from normality of August temperatures always led to an<br />

increase of the cultivation period. A dry May decreased cultivation period, while rain<br />

in June had no significant effect on the cultivation period. On the other hand, high<br />

precipitation in July and August considerably prolonged the cultivation period. The<br />

effect of relative air humidity on the cultivation period gained in significance with increasing<br />

duration of the cultivation period: a high humidity in June decreased the cultivation<br />

period, whereas the opposite effect was observed (i.e., a prolongation of the<br />

cultivation period) for high humidity in July and August.<br />
