It is significant that the main annalsof Ireland record the death and expulsion of St Carthage from his monastery.635 The flight of Carthach from Raithin, at Easter-tide. 86636 St Mochuda, Bishop of Lis Mor and Abbot of Raithin (Rahen), dies on the 14th of May. 87725 Cul Rathain [Rahan] was burned. 88731 Cul Rathain went on fire. 89740 The laws and constitutions of O’Swayne of Rahyne [Rahan] were established by the King andsubjects. 90748 The ‘Law’ of Ua Suanaigh [is enforced] over Leth-Chuinn (the Northern half of Ireland). 91750 Fidhmuine Ua Suanaigh, anchorite of Raithin, died. 92756 Rest of Fidhmuine, i.e., Ua Suanaigh, anchorite of Rathin. 93787 Cummascach, of Raithen fell asleep. 94917 A slaughter of foreigners, viz. seven hundred, by the Uí Chonaill and by the Fir Maige Féine atRaithen Mór. 951113 Diarmaid Ua Ceallaigh [O’Kelly], successor of Ua Suanaigh, died. 961131 Mortagh O’Molloy that succeeded as king of Fearkeall, was burnt by the family of MoyntyrSwanym in the church of Rahin. 97 He was killed because he had his bed that night in the church;and his wife was with him in the bed; the church was burnt over his head for his pollution of thechurch the previous night. 981136 Soirvreach O’Kelly, Cowarb of Rahin O’Swanaye [Rahan]. 991139 Muircheartach Ua Maelmhuaidh [O’Molloy], the other lord of Feara-Ceall, was burned by theFeara-Ceall, i.e. by the Ui-Luainimh, in the church of Raithin. 1001141 Domhnall, son of Ruaidhri Ua Maelmhuaidh [O’Molloy], lord of Feara-Ceall, was killed byMuintir-Luainimh, at Rathain-Ui-Suanaigh [Rahan]. 1011156 Aed, son of Donnchad Hua Maelsechlainn, king of Fir Cell, was slain by the Muintir Luainim inRathen. 1021166 Gilla-na-naemh Ua Ceallaigh, successor of Ua Suanaigh at Rathain, died. 1031205 Moyle Kieran O’Kelly of Rahine, cowarb of St Suanus in Rahine, died. 1041215 The death of bishop O’Cellaigh [O’Kelly] of Rathan, this bishop may have been bishop of thediocese of Kilmacduagh in Co. Galway. 1051227 Simon Clifford founded and builded the castle of Rahan O’Swaynie [Rahan] this year. This mangave an annuity to the Prior of Durrow and Convent. 10684
