DUTFO, JR.For services rendered on Friday, July 25, 1980, at approximately4:00 p.m., while conducting an undercovernarcotics investigation, singlehandedly arrested fourburglary suspects, one of whom was armed with a knifewhich the suspect tried to use to intimidate the officer.POLICE OFICER KENNETH E. HARTMANFor services rendered on Wednesday, January 1,1980, at approximately 12:45 p.m., while preparing toleave home for his tour of duty, observed two suspectsin an auto on Westwood Drive across the street from hishome, one of whom got out of the vehicle and attackedan 85 year old woman, ripping her purse from her arm.The oficer, disregarding his own safety, interceded.Thesuspect in the auto fled at a high rate of speed. Thesecond suspect ran on foot and outdistanced the officer.The officer's intervention of this incident probably savedthe life of this elderly, female citizen.• POLICE OFFICER ALFRED E. BALDOCCHIFor services rendered on Thursday, August 7, 1980,., at 2:20 p.m., in the apprehension of two robberysuspects who robbed the Hibernia Bank located at 4600Mission Street. Officer Baldocchi, working alone, anticipatedthat the suspects might choose their escaperoute through McLaren Park. He responded to thatIocatiOn and spotted the suspect vehicle. The suspectswere forced to the curb at <strong>San</strong> Bruno Avenue andBayshorè Boulevard where, with the assistance of OfficerJack Cohen, they were taken into custody.POLICE OFFICERS STEVEN L. HUTZLER ANDJAMES T. DEELYFor services rendered on Saturday, July 12, 1980,having conferred with two homicide inspectors some 48hours earlier regarding a homicide which occurred at1082 Union Street #1, re-interviewed key witnesses inthe case and developed a 'possible suspect. The CrimeLab compared fingerprints found at the scene with thissuspect's fingerprints and a positive finding was made.These officers then took the suspect into custody andbooked him for murder and robbery.SERGEANTS JAMES C. DISONFor services rendered on Monday, September 1,1980, at 7:05 a.m., having received information that aman brandishing a handgun within the Forest Hill Stationhad departed there from on an inbound L streetcar;boarded the streetcar when it arrived at Market andDuboce Streets. He then took the necessary steps toisolate the subject by alerting the operator and controllingthe passengers. The subject was then taken intocustody with the assistance of other responding officers.POLICE OFFICERS THOMAS J. CORDES,STEVEN R. SHANAHAN, JERE M. WILLIAMSAND DONALD W. WOOLARDFor services rendered on Sunday, October 12, 1980,at 4:40 p.m., when after engaging a wanted suspect in a'hot chase at speeds in excess of 80 miles an hour, apprehendedthe suspect only after he had been stoppedby the officers gunfire flattening one of the suspect'svehicle's tires. The suspect made several attempts torun down the officers, and when this failed, he-exitedthe vehicle and attempted to escape on foot. He wascaught and taken into custody. The suspect was chargedwith three counts of assault on a police officer, onecount of possession of narcotics paraphernalia, possessioñof a deadly weapon, enroute to <strong>San</strong> Mateo on abench warrant for assault with a deadly weapon,enroute to <strong>San</strong> Mateo on a bench warrant for assaultwith a deadly weapon and enroute to Burlingame forassault with intent to commit murder.POLICE OFFICERS MARK A. Further information revealed that one ofthe suspects had bragged to his girlfriend that he hadkilled a person that same night, and after verificationby the Homicide Detail, the subject was booked on anadditional charge of murder.LIEUTENANT ROBERT L. PERINIFor services rendered on Monday, August 4, 1980, at10:00 p.m., while off duty, was advised by his teenagedaughter, Maren, that a brutal robbery and assault hadbeen committed next door. The Sergeant quicklyresponded with his daughter who had seen the suspectsand searched the immediate area. They located thesuspects, who were on foot, running into an Arco GasStation at Woodisde and Portola and took them intocustody.INSPECTORS MICHAEL N.' MALONEY ANDJAMES R. LONG, SERGEANTS GARY D. PETERSAND ROBERT J. PACO, POLICE OFFICERSJOSEPH ARONE AND TIMOTHY G. LOUIEFor services rendered on Tuesday, August 12, 1980;at 2:00 p.m., when they responded to 825 Geary Streeton a report of a serious felony disturbance. Upon arrivalthey were informed by the manager that, a violentfight had occurred in Room 1202. They responded andwere met by a suspect holding a meat cleaver in hishand. The suspect, after refusing to drop the cleaver onorders of the officers, struck Sergeant Peters on theelbow with the weapon. The suspect then fled into thekitchen and grabbed an 8" butcher knife. The officerspursued and caught him, and a vicious struggle ensured.The suspect was disarmed and taken intocustody.SERGEANT LOUIS E. Upon arrival, the officers observed the womanstraddled on the 7th floor window ledge, half in andhalf out of the building. The officers went to the 7thfloor and coaxed the woman out of 'the window.However, she quickly grabbed a 6' hunting knife andwaived it menacingly at the oficers. She then made . a'4"gash , in her throat at which time the officers grabbedher, disarmed her, and took her to Langley PorterHospital for treatment.Willie E.
