According to the goal of finishing it right at the first time, they promoted a careful andcomprehensive inspection.The Electric Fitting Team of N299 MaintainedSchedule by Overcoming Unfavorable ConditionMilestone TrackingThe 57000dwt Bulk carrier (N365)was steel cut smoothlyOn August 21, <strong>2011</strong>, COSCO (Guangdong)Shipyard held the ceremony for startingthe construction of the 57000dwt bulk carrier(N365), which was built for Harbor Shipyardof Greece. The relevant ship’s owners,inspectors and the managers of <strong>shipyard</strong>witnessed this important moment.Since August, Guangzhou had entered a sustained high temperature and <strong>shipyard</strong> also faced the challenges.. In orderto accomplish the production task as scheduled, the electric fitting team of N299 made unremitting endeavor toovercome the scorching weather.Building StoryGiven the values of facilities and the role whichmain engine played in the whole process ofship employment, the installation of mainengine plays a quite crucial part in the procedure ofship-building. On the whole, <strong>shipyard</strong> would conductreaming, hoisting, shafting alignment, sea trial,overhaul as well as warranty of main engine during theconstruction period.In August, it was a busy period for outfitting shop toconduct the installation of main engine, also a monthnever happened before, as it seemed that all main enginehad “dated” together to hold a party--all six crucialparts of the installation of main engine pending to beconducted together, which were as follows: reaming inN277, hoisting in N127, shafting alignment in N184,sea trial of N183 and warranty of N302. Althoughthe schedule was very tight, the installation of mainengine ended in a satisfactory way as the outfittingshop well-coordinated and reasonably coordinated thework, particularly in which, the work team handled theindustrial process flexibly.N227 Reaming of the Main EngineThe requirement of precision of the reaming ofmain engine is very high, so ship owners are justifiedto change main engine once error is caused. In thissense, the working site attaches great importance to thereaming work. Prior to the work of N227 reaming of themain engine was started, the industrial engineering teameffectively communicated with ship owners, solvingthe technical and procedure problems of reaming inadvance, which effectively carried the reaming workforward in an effective way and only used three days tofinish the work.N227 Hoisting of the Main EngineThe hoisting of main engine was an importantmilestone for high technical demands. In order to followup the schedule, outfitting shop reasonably arranged themanpower and inspection From the lower half sectionbeing hoisted on Aug. 22th to the higher half sectionbeing finished hoisting, the installation of exhaust belt,cylinder cover, main engine’s chain, as well accessoriesbeing finished on Aug. 26th, which provided enoughtime for the shrouding of the engine room.Six Machinesunder the Same RoofOn the Installation of Main engine by Outfitting ShopN184 Shafting Alignment of Main EngineAs the key project of installation of shafts andrudders system, the shafting alignment was indicatedhigh technical requirement and would directly impactedthe operation and delivery of ship. On August 20th, wewere noticed that the project team planned to inspectthe main engine on Aug. 22th, which earlier than theday before set. Fortunately we had finished the relevantpreparation task before launching according to theprinciple of advancing the operation procedure. Inaddition, we flexibly adjusted the technological processand successfully completed the inspection August 22thas a result of collective effort.N183 Sea trial of Main EngineThe sea trial was the last stage of inspection theinstallation of N183’s main engine and shafting. Indeed.For the purpose of preventing accidents from happeningduring sea trial, <strong>shipyard</strong> arranged an engineeringtechnician to join it. The process went smoothly and thedatas were met the requirements completely.N302 Overhaul of Main engineThe overhaul of main engine is a routine stage aftersea trial and directly reflects the operation of internalspares. The relate process of N302 was not smooth asthe examination areas were enlarged. However, <strong>shipyard</strong>caught the plan by orderly coordination and hard work.N185 Warranty of Main engineIt was found that the crank shaft 1# cylinder of themain engine of N185, which came to get repaired, wasbeyond the standard range set by factory. On August 27th,by measuring the gaps of main engine’s crank shafts andall bearings together, <strong>shipyard</strong> and STX decided to changethe first bearing then re-measure the gaps between themain engine’s shaft crank and the first and the secondbearings and finally made all the data met the demands offactory and received the recognition of ship owners.In summary, the relevant operations of these sixmachines in August brought unprecedented challenges tooutfitting shop, and examined <strong>shipyard</strong>’ ability. Throughthis experiment, <strong>shipyard</strong> further realized it shouldmeticulously strengthen technical skills, set a betterstandard of control operation procedure and file data.Interior Workshop held the scribingand cutting competitionIn order to improve the employee’s skillsand qualities, the interior workshop held thelineation and cutting completion on August25, <strong>2011</strong>, which attracted 30 workers toparticipate.The competition was consisted of scribingand cutting groups. Finally, Li Weiguo andXie Wenkui respectively won the first prize ofthese two groups.The Construction of the 35000dwt Bulkcarrier (N352) was steel cut smoothlySuccessfully StartedOn September 6, <strong>2011</strong>, COSCO(Guangdong) Shipyard held the ceremonyfor starting the construction of the 35000dwtbulk carrier (N352) which was built forSEMIH of Turkey. The relevant ship’s owners,inspectors and the managers of <strong>shipyard</strong>witnessed this important moment.The 35000dwt bulk carrier was jointdesignedby COSOC Shipyard Group andCOSCO Guangdong <strong>shipyard</strong>, and is 179.99meters in length, 30 meters in breadth and 14.7in depth.

Through varies of games,such as lottery draw and drinkingbeer competition, the partyproceeded in a warm and cordialatmosphere.Between toasts, Mr. Li Rongtalked about the concept of happybuilding and interpreted it as beattentively and loyal to the shipnewbuilding business, which wasgreeted with big applause.Southern CharmThe Double Ninth FestivalThe ninth day of September in theChinese lunar calendar is called theDouble Ninth Festival. As a traditionalfestival, it is derived from Book of Changes,which set nine as “Yang” number. And theword “double” is pronounced as “Chong” inMandarin. So that’s why we call the day as“Chongyang”.Meanwhile, according to the folk custom,Chinese favor this festival also for the numbernine’s pronunciation is the same as “long”. Sonumber nine, especially double number ninerepresents good healthy and a long life. Forthis reason, Chongyang Festival is also calledthe elderly Day.
