Eachloudspeaker produces clear, natural sound for excellentintelligibility of both speech and music. In addition, theaudio characteristics of each line array can be adjusted bymeans of software to meet the acoustical requirements ofthe venue. This, along with the long acoustical reach('throw'), means only a few loudspeakers are required forcomplete coverage. One loudspeaker can cover a distanceof up to 70 meters. The extensive integrated remotemonitoring possibilities of Intellivox loudspeakers alsomake them extremely reliable and a key element in voiceevacuation systems.FunctionsActive LoudspeakersAll Intellivox loudspeakers have state-of-the-art class-Damplifiers as standard. This guarantees efficient andreliable operation without the need for externalamplification. They also have an on-board DSP (DigitalSignal Processor), which controls the frequency and delaytime of each individual driver in the array, thus allowingsoftware adjustment of loudspeaker characteristics likedirection, opening angle and focus distance. As an addedbenefit, the presence of a DSP means there is no need forextra equalizers.Variable Elevation AngleIntellivox loudspeakers incorporate a feature known asDigital Directivity Control, which enables the direction ofthe main lobe to be tilted while the loudspeaker remainsvertical. This is achieved by programming a different delaytime for each individual driver in the array. As an example,by specifying a longer delay for the drivers at the bottom ofthe array, the lobe is effectively tilted downwards. Thesedelay times, and therefore the elevation angle, areprogrammed into the on-board DSP using a PC. This featuregives much more mounting flexibility than conventionalmechanical aiming. It also makes better use of thebackward main lobe, because having the loudspeaker flatagainst a wall helps direct the sound from this lobe towardsthe listening area.Variable Vertical Opening AngleBeing able to adjust the delay times and equalizationsettings for each driver in the array also makes it possibleto specify the opening angle for all relevant frequencies. When the specified angle is narrow, sound can bepinpointed very accurately to a distant listening area. Whenthe angle is wide, one loudspeaker can cover a very broadarea.www.boschsecurity.com

2 | LBC 3256/xx Intellivox 6c Active Line Array LoudspeakersFocus DistanceIntellivox loudspeakers are unique in allowing theloudspeaker focus distance to be set. The focus distance isthe point at which the output of each driver in the arrayconverges. Specifying the focus distance sets how far themain lobe reaches before the drivers’ contributions are outof phase and their sound energy becomes part of the diffusesound field.Even Sound Pressure and Constant DirectivityBy accurately adjusting the direction of the sound andvertical opening angle, a main lobe can be created that hasall relevant frequencies present at nearly the same soundpressure level. With Intellivox loudspeakers, the variationthroughout the entire listening area is no more than 3 dB.This means that the sound for listeners is not too loud atthe front and not too quiet at the back. The constantdirectivity of Intellivox loudspeakers also helps ensure thepresence of all relevant frequencies for more clear andnatural sound.Suppressed Acoustic Side LobesIntellivox loudspeakers produce extremely small side lobes, which gives a much clearer, less 'colored' sound, even whenclose to the loudspeakers.WinControlWinControl is a 32-bit Windows®-compatible program thatenables programming, testing and configuring of Intellivoxunits through the serial port of the PC. The software allows:• Adaptation of signal processing-related parameterssuch as beam settings, gain, EQ, pre-delay and autogain.• Updating or restoring of the DSP software.• Adaptation of surveillance-related parameters such asamplifier/DSP status, temperature overload and pilottone detection settings.• Requesting of the loudspeaker status for error checkingpurposes.• Factory unit initialization.Integrated Remote MonitoringAn Intellivox loudspeaker can be configured to notify abuilding management, control or evacuation systemthrough in- and output relays if an error occurs. Theloudspeaker cabling can be automatically checked using a20 kHz pilot tone. The status of each loudspeaker can alsobe continuously monitored via an RS-485 network. Over 10different system parameters are checked - includingtemperature, pilot tone and amplifier condition - toguarantee system integrity.AVC (Automatic Volume Control)In certain environments, such as sport stadiums andpassenger terminals, the background noise level fluctuatesconstantly. Intellivox loudspeakers are equipped with anexternal terminal for connecting a sensor (LBC 3262/00) formeasuring the ambient SPL. This information is used by theauto gain of the loudspeaker amplifiers to constantly adjustthe loudspeaker output so it is always the same level abovethe ambient noise.Wall MountingThere are several options for mounting the Intellivox againsta wall. It can be supported by means of the wall bracketssupplied as standard, or by the LBC 3270/00 swivel bracket(adjustable through 90 degrees) or the LBC 3271/00 swivelbracket (adjustable through 45 degrees). Both swivelbrackets have to be ordered separately.Safety and Evacuation CompliantThe unrivalled speech intelligibility, reliability and extensivemonitoring features of Intellivox loudspeakers makes thema key element in voice evacuation systems. With Intellivox, systems can be built that comply with both the technicalrequirements and acoustical demands of IEC 60849 andBS 5839.Certifications and ApprovalsRegionCertificationEurope CE Declaration of Conformity
