Goals, Targets and ResultsGOAL 1Support the Province’s climate action objectives by increasing transit share of the passengertransportation market and achieving carbon neutral status for BC Transit operationsOBJECTIVE 1:Establish a GHG emissions measurement and reporting system for BC Transit’s operations and meetcarbon neutral status by 2010.Target: Measurement, reporting, verifying process in place in 2008/09.Result:Conducted greenhouse gas inventory monitoring and introducedSMARTTooL 1 reporting system.Target: Carbon neutral status through emissions reductions and offsets by Year 3 (2010).Result:Submitted its first Carbon Neutral Action Report to Ministry of Transportationand Infrastructure.OBJECTIVE 2: Increase transit share of the regional travel markets in Victoria and the major regionalcentres in B.C.Target: Increase service quality and capacity – 10 per cent average increase per annum.Result:Service was increased by 10 per cent in over 20 communities. This was achievedby expanded service providing more frequency for commuters, studentsand seniors. Total ridership increased by 6.5 per cent over 2008/2009. Major regionalcentres increased by 6.5 per cent; Victoria by six per cent.Target: Increase travel mode share as reflected by increased rides per capita inconventional transit service markets – eight per cent average per annum.Result:Ridership increased by over six per cent – faster than population growth indicating thattransit’s mode share of travel has increased.1 Web-based tool to estimate and track Government’s greenhouse gas emissions from its operations.13BC TRANSIT 2008/09 ANNUAL REPORT
