AADvance Safety ManualAll of the configurations are readily achieved by combining more or fewer modules andassemblies, without needing special cables or interface units. System architectures areuser configurable and can be changed without major system modifications and, in mostcases, without even taking the system off-line. Processor and I/O redundancy isconfigurable so you can choose between fail safe and fault tolerant solutions. Thisscaleability is transparent to the user; there is no change to the complexity ofoperations or programming if you choose to add redundant capacity to a fail-safesolution.A controller is built from a range of compact modules that are straightforward toassemble into a system. They can be fitted onto DIN rails in a cabinet (see photograph)or wall mounted in a control room and do not require forced air cooling or specialenvironmental controls.A secure network communications protocol, developed by ICS Triplex for theAADvance system, permits distributed control using new or existing networkinfrastructure while ensuring the security and integrity of the data. Individual sensorsand actuators can connect to a local controller, minimising the lengths of dedicatedfield cabling. There is no need for a large central equipment room; rather, the completedistributed system can be administered from one or more PC workstations placed atconvenient locations.Single input modules are designed to meet SIL3. The AADvance system hascomprehensive built-in diagnostics, while on-line maintenance to remove a module andfit a new one or to expand the system does not need special tools. Maintenanceactivities are straight forward operations which maximize system up time.2-2 Document number 553630 Issue 7: February 2010
