ealization now manifesting itself assures that in accordance with itsparticular nature, the spiritual is not only given emotionally, imaginatively,abstractly, or conceptually. It also ensures that in accordance with our newcapacity it is also perceptible concretely as it begins to coalesce with ourconsciousness. This will have presumably shed some light an our secondprinciple: (the shining through (diaphaneity or transparency) is the formofappearance (epiphany) ofthe spiritual.This diaphaneity is all-encompassing: it is a transparency ofspace and timeas well as oflight, of matter and soul as well as of life and death. Anutterance of Max Picard that "<strong>Ever</strong>ything that stems from spirit istransparent" understates, for the transparency of the spiritual pervadesthe whole and the whole is transparency. Thus the perception andimparting of truth, the "verition"of diaphaneity, supersede the meremental-rational validity of antitheses and is the realization of the achrononshining forth in it. This time-free present (the achronon) is just as real andefficacious a time-form as those that have preceded it in consciousness,and failure to recognize them would impede its realization. We should notethat this synairetic process, which makes the integral consciousnessstructure accessible, is a new capacity, and not a mere sum of the old.Anyone who understands this synairetic process to be a summation isthinking mentally and synthetically; consequently he fails to perceivearationally and does not attain the basis for the meaningful solution to ourtask.It is in this arational sense also that the designation "integralconsciousness structure" - of which today's man, in mutation, is the bearer- should be understood. This designation refers to man as a whole to theextent that he can constitute himself as a consequence of the newmutation. lt does not contain even the shadow of hubris, and because ofits Christian stamp, is protected from all misinterpretations such as thoseof Nietzsche and the Gnostics, whose superiority doctrines include claimsof power and similarity to the divine. This must be clearly understood.<strong>The</strong> extrication from the mental-rational, which man is todayaccomplishing; his increasing capability, not just of viewing the world as arepresentation but also of perceiving it as transparency; the supersessionof the once necessary duality which enabled the detachment requisite forconsciousness-intensification: all these processes of restructuration pointto a fundamentally new mode of realization, over-determining andmutating from the previous realization.Once man sought truth; this was achieved over the millennia byphilosophy; once man believed truth, and this bond was made possibleover the millennia by relegio and later through religion. And wherever wethink and believe, those attainments endure. But for those capable of "awaring"the whole, the true, this "verition" is no longer a philosophicalsearch nor a faith beset by doubts but a discovery without that searchwhich throughout the ages was, as it were, merely the preparation.76
