Between the ages 5 and 11,boys and girls tend to be equally representedin both child labour generally and hazardouslabour more specifically. At older ages, boysare more involved than girls (see Figure 6.2).The overall trends show a reduction in childlabour, especially in hazardous work. 33Hazardous work makes up the majority of theworst forms of child labour, and is not permittedfor any child under 18 years of age accordingto ILO Convention No. 182; nor are‘unconditional’ worst forms of child labour,such as bonded labour, forced labour, childprostitution, or engagement in fighting forces.Some 8.4 million <strong>children</strong> are estimated to beemployed in these forms.
