PLANNING INFORMATIONA. EFFECTIVITY:This Service Bulletin applies to Meggitt Safety Systems <strong>Inc</strong> (MSSI)microprocessor assemblies using <strong>Comair</strong>/<strong>Rotron</strong> <strong>Fan</strong> P/N <strong>028422</strong>. This partis being superseded by Part Number 12-07022 for all future procurement.B. REASON:Due to obsolescence, the recommended spare/replacement for <strong>Comair</strong>/<strong>Rotron</strong><strong>Fan</strong> P/N: <strong>028422</strong> is the MSSI P/N: 12-07022 (4600X series, manufacturedby EBM Papst). There are limited quantities of <strong>Comair</strong>/<strong>Rotron</strong> P/N: <strong>028422</strong>fans currently available as spare parts, with indeterminate availability in thefuture.C. PARTS DISPOSITION<strong>Comair</strong>/<strong>Rotron</strong> P/N: <strong>028422</strong> fans currently in service or in stock shouldremain as such, according to their regular maintenance schedule.Replacements/spares should be procured using MSSI P/N: 12-07022.C. PARTS COMPARISON:The EBM Papst 4600X series fan has the same mounting configuration andelectrical connection as <strong>Comair</strong>/<strong>Rotron</strong> <strong>Fan</strong> P/N: <strong>028422</strong>. Reference the datasheets in Attachment 1 for specification comparison. No retrofit interfaceconnections are required to replace the <strong>Comair</strong>/<strong>Rotron</strong> <strong>Fan</strong> P/N: <strong>028422</strong>with the EBM Papst 4600X series fan. Existing finger guards and cableconnectors are also compatible without the need for replacement.D. QUALIFICATIONMicroprocessor chassis containing <strong>Comair</strong>/<strong>Rotron</strong> <strong>Fan</strong> P/N: <strong>028422</strong> aredesigned and qualified for mild environment conditions. As such, they arenot exposed to LOCA conditions or radiation. Based on similarity in form,fit, and function, the <strong>Comair</strong>/<strong>Rotron</strong> <strong>Fan</strong> P/N: <strong>028422</strong> is 1E qualified bysimilarity to the EBM Papst 4600X series fan. Additionally, the EBM Papst4600X series fan has been 1E seismically qualified per MSSI engineering reportER 11441. This report details 1E seismic qualification for a CAMS assemblywhich included the EBM Papst 4600X series fan. E. REPLACEMENT SCHEDULEThe recommended replacement cycle for both fans is every 10 years.G.
