NHTIAlumni NewsSpring 2012How A Lynx Became a JaguarMatt Ryan started his academiccareer at a 4-year school in2006, but things didn't goaccording to plan. "I was not utilizing myfull potential by any means," he writesto NHTI Prof. Paul Hogan. "I had a 1.65GPA, I lost all of my financial aid, and Ihad to move back home after two years. To say the least I was no longer confidentin my abilities and not happy with theposition that I found myself in."When I started taking SportsManagement classes at NHTI in 2008I found a new interest in going to classto discuss and learn a subject that wasinteresting to me. Coach Hogan helpedme get my work in on time, taught me theimportance of meeting deadlines, and onlymade fun of my Mohawk once the first dayI arrived in class!"I knew I wanted to be in theSports Business field so while at NHTI Iresearched schools on the east coast withsports business programs. I looked atschools down south, especially Florida, because of the number of professionalsports teams that are located in the area, and the lower living expenses."Matt ended up transferring to SaintLeo University, about 20 minutes eastof Tampa. He took a year and a half ofclasses, and for his final semester workedas a full time intern for the TransitionsChampionship, a PGA Golf Tournamentheld at Innisbrook Resort in Palm Harbor. He graduated in April 2011, and landed ajob with the Jacksonville Jaguars footballteam in June.Way to go, Matt!‘Concord Stars’ Dazzle!2nd Annual Winter Fling raises $35,000In 2011, first-year nursingstudent Carolyn Mallonattended NHTI’s inauguralWinter Fling fundraiser andwatched then Student SenatePresident Steve Bessette (AET,2011) and recent alumnaKaleena Guzman (Event/Conference Management, 2010)win the "Dancing with theConcord Stars" competition.
