It is one of the world’s largestairline groups with more than 400 aircraftflying to 200 destinations and carrying morethan 55m passengers each year.At British Airways, which Willie joined in 2005as Chief Executive, Willie guided the companyto its first-ever 10% operating margin in 2007and introduced permanent changes across theairline to bring it through the worst recessionin aviation history in 2008/9. He secured theairline’s long-term strategic objective toestablish a transatlantic joint business withAmerican Airlines and Iberia and set up themerger with Iberia that led to the formationof IAG.Seb is a double Olympic Champion and12-time world record holder in athletics.He won gold in the 1500m and silver in the800m at both the Moscow 1980 and LosAngeles 1984 Olympic Games. He retiredfrom competitive athletics in 1990 andbecame a Conservative MP and PrivateSecretary to William Hague. In 2002 he wasmade a Peer – Lord Coe of Ranmore. Hereceived a knighthood in the 2006 New Year’sHonours List. Seb is also a Vice-President ofthe International Association of AthleticsFederations.Trinity House,Tower Hill, LondonPrior to joining British Airways, he was ChiefExecutive at Aer Lingus, a position he wasappointed to in the aftermath of 9/11. Facedwith bankruptcy and heavy losses, Willieradically restructured the airline and thisculminated in it posting an €107m profit in2004, making Aer Lingus the most profitablestate-owned airline in the western world.
