Hotel OverviewTraders Hotel, Singapore is a vibrant business hotel in an excellent location andfeatures friendly and efficient service for today’s smart traveller.The hotel is located on Cuscaden Road, in adistrict known as Orchard Spring, a commercialand residential area just a short walk from OrchardRoad, Singapore’s prime shopping, business andentertainment hub. It is minutes away from the embassy district, medicalfacilities, major highways and the renowned Botanic Gardens, and 25 minutesfrom Changi International Airport.Standing 18 levels high with 546 guestrooms and suites, the hotel is surroundedby lush greenery and is connected to Tanglin Mall. Food and beverage optionsinclude an all-day dining restaurant, a local seafood restaurant by the pool, a barand 24-hour in-room dining. For recreation, the hotel has a well-equipped healthclub and spa, and a 30-metre free-form outdoor swimming pool.Guests arriving at the hotel’s lobby will be greeted by The Wave, a sea-mossgreen coloured glass sculpture interpretation of “a moment of reflection in a busylifestyle”, representing this hotel’s “understated flair”.Traders Hotel, Singapore, welcomed its first guests on 24 April 1995 andcelebrated its official opening with Tanglin Mall on Friday, 12 May 1995. Mr YeoCheow Tong, Singapore’s former Minister for Trade and Industry, officiated at theevent. Built at a cost of S$89 million, the hotel was designed by RSP ArchitectsPlanners & Engineers, with interior design by Leo Designers Pte Ltd.3

Guestrooms and SuitesThe hotel has 546 guestrooms and suites including three specially designedrooms for wheelchair access and 18 studio apartments.The guestrooms, from Superior, Deluxe,Traders Club (executive floor) toApartments and Suites, were upgradedin early 2004. The interior decor ismodern in warm, earthy tones of creamand browns, lending a calm and cosyambience. This contemporary Asian style is synonymous with Shangri-La Hotelsand Resorts and projects the high quality in standard and its unique philosophyof “Shangri-La hospitality from caring people.Each guestroom has a remotecontrolled LCD television (featuringlocal and foreign news, movies,entertainment and sports, as well asradio), international direct dial (IDD)telephone with voicemail and dataport, minibar, coffee/tea maker, inroomsafe, iron and ironing board,hairdryer, 24-hour in-room dining as well as same day laundry and valet service.More importantly, guests will enjoy complimentary in-room wired Internet andWi-Fi access.4

Dining and EntertainmentRestaurants and bars include Cafebizlocated at the lobby level, serving anextensive choice of international andAsian dishes for breakfast, lunch anddinner; buffet or à la carte. Of coolsimplicity, casual elegance andmodern functionality, this interactivedining restaurant offers excellent food with a convivial ambience. Outdoor diningis available at Cafebiz Alfresco.Adjoining Cafebiz in the lobby is Cafebiz+. This cosy corner makes an idealmeeting point and serves gourmet coffees, aperitifs and wines. Guests can enjoyan express breakfast or afternoon tea.Ah Hoi’s Kitchen is the hotel’s alfresco poolside restaurant and bar offering localdishes from the wok. The restaurant takes its concept from the local coffee shopor kopitiam. For lunch and dinner, guests can enjoy delicious local stir-frieddishes and fresh seafood. The interior of the restaurant is air-conditioned, whilealfresco dining is at the patio overlooking the pool. Specialities include SriLankan chilli crab, black or white pepper crab, black pepper kway teow, honeyglazed ginger chicken, lobster beehoon and grilled pork ribs in sweet champagnesauce.5

Rumpoles is simply a bar. It was votedone of the Top Nine Bars in Town byCitta Bella magazine (October 2004)and one of Asia’s Great GatheringPlaces by Newsweek International(November 1999) - the only bar inSingapore to win this accolade. Rumpoles bar, which is located on level two,was upgraded in October 2007 and features a contemporary interior with touchesof traditional decorative features such as plush leather seats and wooden blinds.The menu offers a selection of beverages from cocktails to draught beer as wellas hot mains and snacks.6

Banqueting and Function SpaceFor meetings and banquets, TradersHotel, Singapore offers 10 functionrooms with state-of-the-artequipment for lighting, computergrade circuits and personalised service for events of varying sizes andconfigurations. All function rooms are located slightly away from mainstreamhotel traffic, thus offering privacy. A key feature of the hotel’s function rooms isthe natural daylight and a view of the great outdoors. The Gallery, the largestfunction room, seats a maximum of 300 for a banquet and makes a choice venuefor celebratory events such as dinnersand wedding banquets. Windowsgrace an entire wall of the Gallery andoverlooks Cafebiz.A comprehensive Business Centre on level two provides a host of services forthe ever-busy business traveller in Singapore. Its facilities include computers,scanner and printers.7

Wellness and RecreationThe Health Club and Spa with a wellequipped24-hour gymnasium awaits thefitness buff. Within the premises areseparate sauna, steambath, whirlpool,lockers, showers and chill out lounges, formales and females. At the spa, the services include a wide range of spatreatments and massage, as well as a nail spa and a hair salon. This facility wasrefurbished in late 2010.Complementing the recreation facilities of thehotel are a 30-metre outdoor swimming pool,children’s wading pool and a whirlpool, all setwithin the landscaped roof garden on levelfour.A jogging map with a 6.3 km jogging track is available, with directions from thehotel to the nearby Botanic Gardens.8

Other Services and FacilitiesTraders Hotel, Singapore is one of the first businesshotels in Singapore to introduce laundromats on theguestroom floors for the convenience of its guests.Self-service washers and dryers are located on fourlevels. Studio Apartments on level 16, suitable forlong-stays guests or families, have a same-floorlaundromat and the added advantage of akitchenette complete with microwave oven,cookware and a regular-sized fridge.A complimentary scheduled shuttle service provides daily transfers betweenTraders Hotel, Singapore and its sister property, Shangri-La Hotel, Singapore, aswell as to Orchard Road. On weekday mornings the service includes the MRT(subway) station, Suntec City, selected industrial parks and the central businessdistrict at Shenton Way.9

Who’s Who at Traders Hotel, SingaporeTina Sim, General ManagerMs Sim joined Traders Hotel, Singapore as its general manager on 25 July 2012,and is the first female general manager of the hotel. She has been with Shangri-La Hotels and Resorts for seven years.Ms Sim first joined Shangri-La Hotels and Resorts in 2004 at Pudong Shangri-La,Shanghai as the executive assistant manager – Rooms Division. In 2007, shereturned to Singapore as the executive assistant manager – Rooms Division atRasa Sentosa Resort, and in the same year was promoted to resident manager.She left the group in 2009 for one year.Returning to Shangri-La Hotels and Resorts in January 2011, Ms Sim wasappointed hotel manager of Shangri-La’s Rasa Sentosa Resort, Singapore,which had just been refurbished. In August 2011, she was transferred to Shangri-La Hotel, Singapore in a similar capacity, remaining there until her latestpromotion to general manager of Traders Hotel, Singapore.Ms Sim has 24 years of experience in hotel operations at five-star hotels andresorts, in Singapore, Shanghai and Hong Kong. Her career in the hospitalityindustry started in 1988, when she was a front office agent at The WestinStamford & Westin Plaza, Singapore. Ms Sim is a graduate of Nanyang JuniorCollege. She was born and raised in Singapore.10

Exploring the NeighbourhoodTanglin MallConnected to the hotel on level two is Tanglin Mall, a 12,000-square-metre retailcentre with boutiques, gift shops, drugstores, a supermarket, specialityrestaurants and a food court.Botanic GardensThis lush garden of 63 hectares (155.7 acres) located in the heart of Singapore iswithin walking distance of the hotel. Within the gardens lay pockets of interest forthe visitor.
