ECOLOGY, THREATS AND MANAGEMENT OPTIONS FOR SMALL ESTUARIES AND ICOLLS
AUTHORS
Dr Wade L Hadwen
Wade Hadwen is employed as a Post Doctoral Research Fellow in the Centre for Riverine Landscapes at Griffith
University. His recent research experience has focussed on the assessment of aquatic ecosystem responses to
disturbances, principally in the form of visitor activities in pristine environments. Specifically, Wade’s PhD
investigated the impacts of tourism on Fraser Island dune lakes and incorporated visitor surveys, water quality
and algal productivity assessments and manipulative experiments investigating ecological responses to nutrient
inputs. Email: w.hadwen@griffith.edu.au
Prof Angela H Arthington
Angela Arthington is Professor in aquatic ecology and a program leader in the Centre for Riverine Landscapes,
Griffith University. Over the past 20 years Angela has built up a team of ecologists working on the ecology and
management of lakes, wetlands and rivers. Angela has worked extensively on the ecology of dune lakes and on
the biology, ecology and conservation of native and introduced freshwater fish in these unusual wetland systems.
She is also keenly interested in river management, especially the allocation and monitoring of environmental
flows, and has pioneered an ecosystem approach to water allocation for the environment. Email:
