‘i’m very open to doing new things’the actress reveals her bond ambitions and tells us itwasn’t a big deal getting naked with owen wilsonJane Seymour has a great sense of humour. When recently likened to Martha Stewart –only better looking and without the criminalrecord – the actress and mother of four threwback her tumbling locks and roared with laughter. It’s a good job Jane, 56, can still see the funny sideof life because the past 12 months have provedturbulent – her Malibu home nearly burned downtwice in the wildfires which raged close to herCalifornian abode, her mother died after a strokeand a long-running dispute with villagers close toher Elizabethan manor house in Bath left herdistraught. After months of legal wrangling, Janewon the court fight but she’s now selling the houseshe once described as her ‘favourite place on earth’.‘the front of me wasnever seen on camera.it was fun behavingembarrassingly’But there’s no denying that there have beenplenty of up-times in Jane’s rollercoaster year.Best known for her role in Dr Quinn, MedicineWoman, Jane’s won a new generation of fans afterappearing with Owen Wilson in Wedding Crashersand on America’s Dancing With The Stars. We caught up with Jane at her Malibu home inher latest role as the new face of CC, Austin Reed’scontemporary clothing line, and she reveals howshe’s coped with recent months, stripping off andhow she’d love to be a Bond girl again…What prompted you to do DancingWith The Stars? It was completely insane! I’d been asked a numberof times to do the programme, but this time I toldmy mother about it. I phoned her from America,at the nursing home in England – she couldn’t talksince suffering a stroke, but she’d listen while mysister held the phone. Strictly Come Dancing washer favourite show and I asked her if I appeared onthe American version would she be proud of me?She said: ‘Yes’, the first word she’d spoken sinceher stroke. That’s what made me want to do it.You’re known as a dramatic actress butyou’re doing a lot more comedy now…Since Wedding Crashers I’ve been asked to do alot more comedy and I love it because not manydramatic actresses get the chance to do both.Jane seymourretnaAbove: Jane is the face of CC by Austin Reed. exThat nude scene with Owen Wilsoncaused a real stir – were you worriedabout stripping off?It was no big deal really, the front of me was neverseen on camera and it was fun playing a womanof a certain age behaving really embarrassingly.I’m very open to doing new things. You were once a Bond girl – DanielCraig has said he’d like you to make acomeback in a future Bond movie…I don’t know if he really said that, but I’d love towork with him. I think Daniel is amazing – theBond franchise is extraordinary. If I was invited tomake an appearance I’d be very happy. How do you manage to fit everything in?My family is my absolute priority and I turn thingsdown if they can’t fit around them, but I manage alot because I can work from home – my art studiois here and my husband [director James Keach]has his own film and editing suite here. We’re verywell located – when I was rehearsing flat out forDancing With The Stars I was still able to get homein time for dinner each night. You haven’t had a facelift but there’s a lotof pressure in Hollywood for actresses tolook young. What’s your philosophy?I’m definitely not against plastic surgery, but as anactress I don’t want to paralyse my face or stretch itin such a way so I can’t play the kind of charactersI want to play. Age hasn’t held me back.Tell us about your collaboration with CC…I really love the clothes. Originally they wanted meto shoot a campaign in Europe but I said: ‘Actually,it would be a lot easier if you were to shoot it in myback garden!’ The CC team flew over for the shootand loved it here. We had great fun doing the photosand I got to keep most of the clothes. A lot of myfriends in America keep asking me where they canget them, so I tell them they’ll have to go to England!Lastly, what would you most like to beremembered for? That’s a big question.
