S E C T I O N 4TROUBLESHOOTING AND PREVENTIVE MAINTENANCE4.2 Cleaning the InstrumentWhen needed, the induction/analysis modulesurfaces and accessories should bewiped down using a soft cloth dampenedwith mild detergent or 10% householdbleach solution.Electrodes must be cleaned following eachiontophoresis procedure as follows:1 Remove any remaining gel from electrodes.2 Use a cotton ball or swab moistened withpurified water to clean each electrode thoroughly.3 If the electrode appears dirty after anextended idle period, or will not clean withsteps 1 and 2, use a small round piece oflight duty cleaning pad (such as 3M ScotchBrite TM #7445) to buff the electrode surface.CAUTION!Never use harsh abrasives such as steelwool, sandpaper, or emery cloth to cleanelectrodes. Never scrape electrodes withmetal tools. If the electrode surface isscratched or pitted it will not perform asspecified and must be replaced.34
S E C T I O N 4TROUBLESHOOTING AND PREVENTIVE MAINTENANCE4.2 Cleaning the InstrumentUse the following options to clean Nanoductstraps, holders and attachment strap retainersor any other parts that come into contactwith a patient:Option A:1 Soak the straps for 30 minutes in a freshlyprepared 10% dilution of household bleach.2 Rinse soaked straps thoroughly in tap water.3 Allow to air dry.Option B.1 Autoclave the straps for 30 minutes at 121ºC.CAUTION:Do not autoclave the Nanoduct holders (red or black) orthe attachment strap retainer post. Autoclaving willdestroy these parts.35
