The arrow on thedisplay should indicate Check Controls onthe menu.We recommend checking control values(using the built in calibration plate) beforeeach session. See Section 4.4 for details.NOTE:Selecting the FORCE CAL. option will bring upthe Check Controls operation whenever theinstrument is turned on. See Appendix D.4 Clean Selected Skin AreasSelect the anodic (positive) skin site for thegreatest density of sweat glands. The sitemust be well-removed from the wrist wheremovement of tendons or ligaments couldpossibly affect the stability of the attachedunits. In neonates, the optimum site is theflexor aspect of the forearm, approximatelyhalf way between wrist and elbow. Thecathodic (negative) electrode site is not ascritical, place it an inch or two from theanode in the direction of the elbow.WARNING!Never place electrodes across the chest or onopposite limbs. Even though the DC iontophoreticcurrent is extremely low, there is a very remote riskof interference with cardiac rhythms.Inspect the selected sites. The skin shouldbe free of fissures and any structural abnormality. There should be no inflammation orsigns of eczema. Apart from exacerbatingthe complaint, there is always the possibilityof contamination of the sweat by serousexudates.14
