IntroductionSince its founding in 1968, <strong>Cincom</strong> Systems, Inc. has producedhundreds of software products for sale to our customers. Eachsoftware product goes through a natural life cycle from early adoption,to first release, and then on to widespread availability, and finally itreaches a mature state. When software reaches a mature state, someproducts are replaced with new software offerings, while others remainin this state continuing to provide significant value to our customers.We have developed this document to provide definitions of <strong>Cincom</strong>’ssupport policies and to highlight the application of these policies for thecurrent list of <strong>Cincom</strong> products.This document should be viewed as a “living” document. It will beupdated to reflect the addition of new products from <strong>Cincom</strong>, therelease of new versions of existing <strong>Cincom</strong> products, and any changein the Support Level, support operating systems, or required third partysoftware.The most current version of this document is available to <strong>Cincom</strong>customers and can be requested via email at helpna@cincom.com, orthe document can be downloaded after logging on to our supportwebsite at http://supportweb.cincom.com.CINCOM SYSTEMS ® 11


<strong>Cincom</strong> Support Policies and DefinitionsAs a pioneer in the software industry, <strong>Cincom</strong> has a client list andtechnology heritage matched by no other software supplier.To continue providing world-class support this twenty-first century,<strong>Cincom</strong> has established the following product support levels to ensurethe best support for current releases of all active products and give a“reasonable effort” to all other releases. These levels of support areprovided to customers that are current on all license charge payments.This <strong>Product</strong> <strong>Release</strong> <strong>Catalog</strong> lists the products covered by this policyand the level of support for each release.A. Current release(s) of active products<strong>Cincom</strong> will provide support as defined in the Software LicenseAgreement and Schedule of <strong>Product</strong>s for the current release(s) ofthe product.B. Preceding release(s) of active products<strong>Cincom</strong> will make a “reasonable effort” to provide a work-around ortemporary correction for product problems, at no charge, for aminimum of six months to a maximum of two years after the newcurrent release becomes available. Upgrades may only beavailable via the current release(s), or on a “reasonable effort, time,and materials” basis (including support for new versions of thehardware or pre- or co-requisite software).C. All other releases of active productsAll support for prior releases of products is provided on a“reasonable effort, time, and materials” basis.D. Current release of inactive products/platforms<strong>Cincom</strong> will make a “reasonable effort” to provide a work-around ortemporary correction for product problems at no charge. G. Billable supportAdditional charges may be incurred for support on the followingproducts, regardless of release, if the problem is determined to bea customer usage issue, (i.e., how-to questions, a product failureoccurs due to customer error or misuse):AD/Advantage, MANTIS, gOOiSUPRA Server Version 1 (PDM)TOTAL, TISSUPRA/SQLThe issue of “billable or not billable” should be discussed with yoursupport representative during the course of the resolution, if thereare any questions.CINCOM SYSTEMS ® 13


DefinitionsReasonable effort<strong>Cincom</strong> will apply resources and expertise to the problems that iscommercially reasonable, but makes no guarantees that these will beadequate or available when needed.Time and materials<strong>Cincom</strong> will charge its standard rates to diagnose, correct, and testchanges. Travel, machine resources, and other expenses are alsochargeable. <strong>Cincom</strong> will give estimates of the effort after the problem isdiagnosed, but will not guarantee the estimates or provide fixed-costcontracts.Active products<strong>Product</strong>s that are regularly enhanced with new features or that supportnew environments. This may be done in a new release and/or as achargeable option.Inactive products<strong>Product</strong>s that are still supported for error correction, but are no longerregularly enhanced to support new versions of the hardware and preorco-requisite software.Additional notes:Generally, <strong>Cincom</strong> will give notice when the support level of a givenproduct is changed to Inactive or Discontinued. Situations mayoccur where prior notice is not possible (e.g., <strong>Cincom</strong> discontinuessupport of our products on hardware platforms and pre- or corequisitesoftware releases when the system vendor discontinuessupport). Usually, the system vendor gives advance notice beforesupport is discontinued, but <strong>Cincom</strong> cannot guarantee this advancenotice.<strong>Cincom</strong> may provide product corrections as patches, replacementmodules, or new product releases. Patches are not possible on allplatforms (e.g., all UNIX, all PC, and OpenVMS Alpha). Therefore,<strong>Cincom</strong> provides corrections on these platforms only for the currentrelease as modification levels. These modifications are notconsidered new releases, and do not impact the currentlydesignated support level. For all prior releases, these types ofsource modifications are provided on the basis of “reasonableeffort, time, and materials.”<strong>Cincom</strong> has published the support level of <strong>Cincom</strong> products in the<strong>Product</strong> <strong>Release</strong> <strong>Catalog</strong>. If any product has been overlooked,please contact your <strong>Cincom</strong> Account Representative forclarification. The default status of any product not listed should beconsidered level F – Discontinued (see “<strong>Cincom</strong> Support Policiesand Definitions” for definition).14 July 2014
