UNIVERSITY OF OSLO Page 2 <strong>of</strong> 3Faculty <strong>of</strong> Education<strong>Explanation</strong>- Students have the right to receive an explanation <strong>of</strong> their <strong>grades</strong> upon <strong>request</strong>.- Students <strong>request</strong>ing an explanation <strong>of</strong> a grade given at an oral or practical exam: the<strong>request</strong> must be made immediately after the examination result is given.- Students <strong>request</strong>ing an explanation <strong>of</strong> the grade given at a <strong>written</strong> exam: the <strong>request</strong> mustbe made within one week after the student received the grade and not later than three weeksafter the grade has been announced.- The explanation <strong>of</strong> the grade will normally be given within two weeks after receipt <strong>of</strong> thestudent’s <strong>request</strong>.- The examiner is entitled to decide whether the explanation will be provided in <strong>written</strong> ororal <strong>form</strong>.Appeal- An appeal against a grade and/or an appeal against <strong>form</strong>al errors during anexam/assessment are considered anonymous for each candidate, except for master thesis.- Appeals against exam results must be made in <strong>written</strong> <strong>form</strong>.- An appeal must be made within three weeks after the grade has been announced. In caseswhere the student has first <strong>request</strong>ed an explanation <strong>of</strong> a grade or appealed due to <strong>form</strong>al errorsduring an examination, s/he can appeal against the grade within three weeks after s/he hasreceived the explanation or result <strong>of</strong> the first appeal.- The appeal is reviewed by two new examiners. The new examiners are entitled to grant anew grade or maintain the initial grade. It is not possible to appeal against this new grade.Please note that there are some specific <strong>grades</strong> that cannot be appealed against. Oral or practicalexaminations cannot be evaluated by new examiners due to the fact that they have not beenrecorded.
