Criminologists work in federal andstate justice agencies such as research and statisticsinstitutes, police departments and courts. The student is expected to attend all classes,undertake all assessments and examinationsduring a program, and abide by the rules andregulations of QIBT that are in force at any time.2. The contract between the applicant and QIBT isgoverned by the laws of the Commonwealth ofAustralia and the State of Queensland.3. QIBT may, by written notice, vary theconditions of enrolment as may be necessaryto comply with any law, regulation oramendment thereof, of the Commonwealth ofAustralia or the State of Queensland.4. In the event of circumstances requiring urgentmedical care and where it is not possible tocontact the parent/guardian, QIBT isauthorised as a matter of urgency to seek andprovide appropriate medical care.5. International students must meet the minimumEnglish language requirements for entry to theprogram. English proficiency will be tested and,if the test reveals insufficient English languageskills, the student will be required to Ie abridging English course in the first semester ofstudy, or to enrol in an English LanguageIntensive Course for Overseas Students(ELICOS) before beginning their studies — all atthe sole discretion of QIBT.6. Students who are granted permanentresidency before the census date for asemester will be charged as a domestic studentfor that semester, providing they submitdocumentary evidence of their change of visastatus. Students who are granted permanentresidency after the census date will be enrolledas a domestic student the following semester,providing they submit documentary evidenceof their change of visa status. The census datefor each semester is the end of Week 4 ofthe semester.Refund policyOverviewOnce an applicant accepts a place offered by QIBTand pays fees, or submits a Request for FEE-HELP,a binding contract is created between the studentand QIBT.A student may cancel their enrolment in a courseor program at any point in time. Depending on thetiming of that request a student may be subject toa cancellation charge as outlined in the tablesbelow. For the purposes of this policy, cancellationcharges for withdrawal from program will be basedon semester fees which are defined as onefull-time semester of study in any program at QIBT(40 credit points).Notification of withdrawal from a program must bemade in writing to QIBT via submission of a Leaveof Absence form or a Withdrawal from Programform, completed in consultation with theappropriate QIBT staff member outlined on theform. Notification of withdrawal from a coursemust be made in writing to QIBT via submission ofa Change of Enrolment form and should be doneso in conjunction with the program coordinator.QIBT defines a Course as a single subject of studywhich is completed in one semester. A Program iscomprised of a number of courses which make upa qualification (e.g. Diploma or Certificate).No refunds are given for tuition fees unless thestudent has completed, cancelled or withdrawnfrom their program. Any overpayment of fees willremain credited towards a student’s account andapplied against charges in a subsequent semester.Timing of RefundsA student who believes they are entitled to arefund of fees must complete a Request for RefundForm. Where a student is entitled to a refund offees under this policy, the refund will be paid withinfour (4) weeks of receiving the Request for RefundForm. Refunds will be paid in Australian dollars,unless payment in that currency is impracticable.Refunds will be paid to the person who enters intothe contract with QIBT (normally the student),unless the person gives a written direction to QIBTto pay the refund to another person.International Students and allCertificate StudentsFor the purposes of calculating cancellationcharges relating to this section of the policy, anInternational student is defined as one who is notan Australian or New Zealand citizen or the holderof a permanent residency visa. Any studentundertaking Certificate level programs is alsosubject to these cancellation charges.Where a student’s visa renewal is rejected due to abreach in visa conditions subsequent to themcommencing studies at QIBT, the student mustwithdraw from QIBT and the cancellation fee willbe calculated as shown in the table following.A student who fails to meet the entry requirementsfor their program and who is therefore forced towithdraw, will be charged an administration feeof $500.An international or certificate student whowithdraws from a course(s) prior to the censusdate for that semester will not be liable for tuitionfees for that course(s).
