We should mentionthe ECC - Kruishoutem first prize, in 1989. He a so participatedin over 20 international juries.He is a genuine professional, passionate about cartooningevolution in general and the history of ideas in cartooning inparticular. Pena - Pai is considered an artist with a trained eye,capable of finding similarities in cartoon art.- Which are in your opinion the elements that make agood cartoon?- A good cartoon lives first and foremost through its concept/idea and only secondly through its graphic "coat". The originalIDEA is the author's intelectual product and his pride. The wholeintelligence of a cartoonist is quantified in his idea, the copyrightis applied to the idea, not to the quality of the drawing.The idea is like a ROOT - a good root - which, after you have"planted", and you have drawn nicely, a good cartoon will comeout of it. The idea is accepted as original only when it belongsto the first author.If out of ignorance, human error memory or coincidence youtake over/borrow the "root" of another author, you will definitelynot create an original cartoon (based on your own inspirationand creativity). Instead, you will produce Similarity, similaritywhich can be the same as Plagiarism. This is the first lessonany cartoonist should learn.- How would you define these two words "Similarities"and "Plagiarism?"- I have just defined them, but I haven't finished the topic yet.We all know that similarity cannot be confused with originality,but there are similarities of ideas that can give rise to goodcartoons. The key to this issue can be found in the two conceptsthat I created: NEGATIVE similarity triggered by repetition, whenyou have taken the other's "root" or idea, you have NOT ADDEDany new element, any intellectual potential or message change.As a member of a jury, I would never award a prize to a cartoonin this category. In my opinion, this category is also a form ofplagiarism.POSITIVE similarity manifests itself by diference, i.e., whenyou have borrowed the "root" of someone else, but you haveADDED clear, visible elements of novelty and creativity. Thecartoons that belong to this category cannot be compared tothose that have an original value; however, some cartoons,judged in terms of the novelty they ADDED, can be awardedprizes in contests. Summing up, in cartooning there are only 3cartoon categories: -ORIGINAL cartoons (containing an originalidea); NEGATIVE similarities by repetition, or PLAGIARISM;POSITIVE similarities by difference. NEGATIVE similarities- You are we known as the godfather of the similaritiesin cartooning. How come you are so passionate aboutthis theme?- The Godfather of similarities is H. I consider that this art, cartooning,is in decline because of the over - reiteration of the old ideas orof plagiarism. The 1980 - 2000's ideas - the best cartooningage - are redrawn in a negative way, with no creativity ordiscernment. Albert Einstein once said: "The secret to creativityis knowing how to hide your sources".As a sincere researcher, honest and dispassionate, everyday I discover the sources of inspiration of the new currentcartoons in the old cartoon albums of the 80s or 90s. That iswhere the passion for my "HISTORY OF IDEA IN<strong>CARTOON</strong>ING" comes from.- What do you want to achieve with your actions?- I want to stop this decline, to contribute to cartooningdevelopment and to prevent the replication of ideas. Even if myaction is not a vendetta against any author, -I am just studyingideas and drawings - there are already some opponents whoseem to be irritated by my research.They do not manage to see "the forest" (my history) for "thetrees" (their similar drawings). But I will continue to show mycollection of similarities, as it is useful to many. I have a too richcollection and nothing can prevent me from showing it.NEGATIVE similarities- Do you think that cartoonists now are ess creative,innovative than f.e. 20, 30 years ago? Why?- Because creativity is on the verge of extinction. Everythingfrom the past is being duplicated. Cartooning is not like fashion,where trends come and go after a number of years 'cycle. However,development has been accelerated withthe illumination of the "dark" Middle Ages.Humor, which makes people look to theworld as a way of tolerance, has beenreplaced in the history of art with a wink.Izmir Joy and Cartoon Museum withthe awareness of museum's developing,growing, and creating and sharingcorporate knowledge, begins with a lineextending life to share with a modestcollection especially to assess theaccumulation of visual or written humorof the Mediterranean sea by hiding andprotecting to reach these outstandingexamples to the next generation fromlocal to globalone.Undoubtedly, this museum will put itsexistence of formation by growing,evolving developing, educating andentertaining over time.Stages of our museum's foundationprocess is as fun and exciting as its name.Thought of Cartoon museumsfoundation has been an existing ideain the mind of Konak Municipality MayorDr. Hakan Tartan from the beginning tothe end. Studies of the Museum ofCartoon has begun with taking intoconsideration of the needs of lzmir in2010. Meetings which began in Octoberhave taken days, nights and months withthe members of the Museum AdvisoryBoard Tan Oral, Eray Ozbek and TurgutÇeviker. It has been discussed for hoursin order to create a museum which wouldbe visited by from an every age. With longdebates, the exchange of ideas and as aresult of archives, our museum is openingits door and begins to breathe by the firstexhibition of the "Mediterranean Joy".There is a Turkish discourse "Akdenizliolunmaz, Akdenizli doðulur" which meanspeople who are not born in Mediterraneancan not be from Mediterranean.
