Voyager ® / Discover ® / Endeavor ® InstallationHUB SEAL INSTALLATIONSTEP 1Remove all burrs from hub bore and spindle.Thoroughly clean hub cavity and spindle.NOTE: Do not apply a sealant to the spindleshoulder. Apply a light coat of lubricant tospindle surfaces.STEP 2With the wheelin horizontalposition, prelubethe innerbearing andplace it into thebearing cup.NOTE: When using grease, pre-pack theinner bearing before placement into the hub.STEP 3Place the seal onthe recommendedSTEMCO InstallationTool, with thecorrect head, so thatthe words “Air Side”face into the tool.Place the tool (withthe seal correctlymounted in the toolhead) over the hubbore. Use a heavyhammer to driveagainst the end of the tool. Drive seal intobore until complete bottoming is assured.Remove Tool. Apply a thin layer of lubricant onthe I.D. surface of the seal.NOTE: Do not apply lubricant to the O.D.of the seal.STEP 4With the wheelmounted on adolly, carefullyalign the borewith the spindle.Gently push thewheel assemblyonto the spindleto the proper position. Fill the hub cavity withlubricant until it runs over the outer bearingcup. Coat the outer bearing with lubricant andplace it on the spindle and into the bearingcup. NOTE: When using grease, pre-pack theouter bearing before placement into the hub.NOTE: Support the hub with the lifting deviceuntil the outer bearing and wheel-end fastenerhave been installed to a hand tight condition toprevent cocking of the hub/seal.STEP 5Assemble theinner nut andtighten it to200 ft. lbs.Rotate thewheel severaltimes thenback off nut one full turn. Make final bearingadjustment according to TMC recommendedbearing adjustment procedure. Install theappropriate axle fastener.STEP 6Install hub cap with new gasket, and fill cavitywith the desired lubricant to the proper level.On drive axles be sure the differential oil is highenough (manufacturer’s recommended level) toensure oil flow through the tube to the wheels.It is recommended to jack one side up andthen the other until flow starts.
