PORTLAND, Ore. – April 1, 2013 – Shopping with kids at New Seasons Market can be fun and a great learning experience, too. To help parents and young children feel welcome and at home when they shop, New Seasons Market is hosting Good for You, Kid!, an action-­‐packed afternoon of fun in the aisles on Saturday, May 4 th , from noon to 4 p.m., at its Happy Valley store, located at 15861 S.E. Happy Valley Town Center Drive. Kids and parents can learn to make bread and jam in the cooking school. At stations throughout the store, they’ll weigh produce, grind peanut butter and try new, healthy foods. They can also learn to turn fresh cream into creamy butter with local Organic Valley dairy farmers, climb aboard a tractor with local farmers from Siri and Son Farms, learn about worm composting from Zenger Farm and discover fascinating facts about honeybees from a local bee expert from Bee Local. Families can work up an appetite dancing to live kids music by Portland musician Mo Phillips, then take a break to pot flowers, play grocery bingo and sit in on story time. Healthy snacks, compliments of Organic Valley, Nancy’s Yogurt, KIND Healthy Snacks, Clif Bar and New Seasons Market, will keep energy levels high and everyone happy. In addition to self-­‐guided activities, three scheduled classes will be offered in New Season Market’s cooking school and community room. Classes are free and space is limited. 12:30 p.m. Comics with Author of “Casey and Kyle” Meet local illustrator Will Robertson, creator of the children’s comic book series “Casey and Kyle.” Be the first to purchase a signed copy of his newest book. 1 – 1:30 p.m. Build a Better Breakfast (for parents) Get excited about breakfast again! Hear kid-­‐friendly food tips, including gluten-­‐free and casein-­‐free options, for this most important meal of the day. 1 – 2 p.m. Learn to Make Bread and Jam (ages 6 and up) 2 -­‐ 3 p.m. This hands-­‐on class introduces kids to the simple ingredients and steps for making bread and jam. Kids leave with a loaf of bread, ready to bake at home, plus a container of jam, ready for the freezer.
