PORTLAND, Ore. – April 1, 2013 – Shopping with <strong>kid</strong>s at New Seasons Market c<strong>an</strong> be fun <strong>an</strong>d a great learning experience, too. To help parents <strong>an</strong>d young children feel welcome <strong>an</strong>d at home when they shop, New Seasons Market is hosting Good for You, Kid!, <strong>an</strong> action-­‐packed <strong>afternoon</strong> <strong>of</strong> fun in the aisles on Saturday, May 4 th , from noon to 4 p.m., at its Happy Valley store, located at 15861 S.E. Happy Valley Town Center Drive. Kids <strong>an</strong>d parents c<strong>an</strong> learn to make bread <strong>an</strong>d jam in the cooking school. At stations throughout the store, they’ll weigh produce, grind pe<strong>an</strong>ut butter <strong>an</strong>d try <strong>new</strong>, <strong>healthy</strong> foods. They c<strong>an</strong> also learn to turn fresh cream into creamy butter with local Org<strong>an</strong>ic Valley dairy farmers, climb aboard a tractor with local farmers from Siri <strong>an</strong>d Son Farms, learn about worm composting from Zenger Farm <strong>an</strong>d discover fascinating facts about honeybees from a local bee expert from Bee Local. Families c<strong>an</strong> work up <strong>an</strong> appetite d<strong>an</strong>cing to live <strong>kid</strong>s music by Portl<strong>an</strong>d musici<strong>an</strong> Mo Phillips, then take a break to pot flowers, play grocery bingo <strong>an</strong>d sit in on story time. Healthy snacks, compliments <strong>of</strong> Org<strong>an</strong>ic Valley, N<strong>an</strong>cy’s Yogurt, KIND Healthy Snacks, Clif Bar <strong>an</strong>d New Seasons Market, will keep energy levels high <strong>an</strong>d everyone <strong>happy</strong>. In addition to self-­‐guided activities, three scheduled classes will be <strong>of</strong>fered in New Season Market’s cooking school <strong>an</strong>d community room. Classes are free <strong>an</strong>d space is limited. 12:30 p.m. Comics with Author <strong>of</strong> “Casey <strong>an</strong>d Kyle” Meet local illustrator Will Robertson, creator <strong>of</strong> the children’s comic book series “Casey <strong>an</strong>d Kyle.” Be the first to purchase a signed copy <strong>of</strong> his <strong>new</strong>est book. 1 – 1:30 p.m. Build a Better Breakfast (for parents) Get excited about breakfast again! Hear <strong>kid</strong>-­‐friendly food tips, including gluten-­‐free <strong>an</strong>d casein-­‐free options, for this most import<strong>an</strong>t meal <strong>of</strong> the day. 1 – 2 p.m. Learn to Make Bread <strong>an</strong>d Jam (ages 6 <strong>an</strong>d up) 2 -­‐ 3 p.m. This h<strong>an</strong>ds-­‐on class introduces <strong>kid</strong>s to the simple ingredients <strong>an</strong>d steps for making bread <strong>an</strong>d jam. Kids leave with a loaf <strong>of</strong> bread, ready to bake at home, plus a container <strong>of</strong> jam, ready for the freezer.
