FROM COFFEE GRINDERS TO CARS - A BRIEF HISTORY OF THE PEUGEOT MARQUE.Long before Peugeot started manufacturing its cars in 1889, a story filled with innovation and discovery had alreadybegun. The “Peugeot Frères” (Peugeot brothers) company was officially founded in 1810, when the Peugeot familybought a small cereal mill at Sous Cratet. They set about capitalising on the Industrial Revolution by converting it intoa steel factory. Due to the brothers’ skillful handiwork and foresight, their factory began producing coffee grinders, sheetsteel and various tools, but it was handsaws that inspired the famous emblem of the company. From the 1850’s,the lion emblem was stamped onto every Peugeot product to symbolise its strength and quality.1In 1869, the company identified the new trends in vehicle design and began producing horse drawn carriages for thearmy. Throughout the latter decades of the nineteenth century, Peugeot was identifying the latest trends in vehicledevelopment. As the popularity of two-wheeled transport grew, Peugeot began working on plans for a very newtype of venture.By 1890, the petrol powered “Peugeot Type 2” was developed, thus demonstrating the company’s earlycommitment to innovation and ‘cutting edge’ advancement. In 1897, the Peugeot ‘range’ featured five new modelsincluding a two-seater.From the very first day the Peugeot marque was born, its success has continued to grow year after year. The companyhas demonstrated its commitment to innovation, offering its customers everlasting style and the very latest technologies. The story of Peugeot is an amazing history of family, design and business acumen. Although the Peugeot name hasbeen synonymous throughout the centuries with everything from coffee grinders to vehicles, innovation has alwaysbeen at the heart of the business and brand. In pursuing the brand’s core values of reliability, style and dynamism, Peugeot continues to build upon this success.

PEUGEOT MODEL NUMBERS. The first number of every car describes the family and size (206, 306…),and the last digit indicates the generation (205, 206, 207…). This tradition began in 1929 with the launch of the 201.All numbers from 101 to 909 have been deposited as trademarks. An unsubstantiated explanation for the central'0' is that on early models the number appeared on a plate on the front of the car, with the hole for the startinghandle coinciding with the zero. For specific niche models such as minivans or SUVs, we are now using a four-digit system, with a double zero in themiddle. The 1007 used this system when it was launched in 2005.PEUGEOT – CARS THAT CARE.
