Q & A with Craig and Lynda Barrie

EV: What should we know about the
Barrie family?
A. Lynda and I moved from south Florida
about seven years ago to get away from south
Florida. We are empty nesters, as all the kids
are gone but not forgotten. They remind us
just about every day - and sometimes on the
weekend - with dirty laundry, making sure
the light in the refrigerator works, requests
for gas money, or an air ticket to return
home. You have to pay otherwise you’re stuck
with them again. Son Kane lives in Australia,
Dillon in Boca Raton, and Reis in Orlando.
I am in the performance boat business and
spent 18 years with the Cigarette Racing
Team in North Miami Beach, during
which time I won two boat racing World
Championships, had a number of national
wins, was winner of the Venice to Monte
Carlo race, and first “loser” twice in Formula
One boat racing’s national title. (Editor’s
note: Craig was reluctant to give me these
details but like he said, I asked!) With the
help of some great people, I have also built
a number of winning race boats for clients.
I am currently with Donzi representing
Donzi, Baja, Fountain, and Proline Boats.
Lynda, who has been involved in the
Healthcare industry for the past 20 years,
helps keep me alive even when I’m feeling
fine. She loves cooking, has all the toys for
making me fat, and always makes too much
for our guests.
EV: Tell us about the Porsches
you have owned.
A. Our first Porsche was a 1974
911, followed by a 1976 911, and
a “tired” 1979 911 - which after
a face lift, became a race car that
lived and ended its racing days at
Sebring. Next was a black 1999
Carrera cabriolet - Lynda likes
driving with the top down. That car
was exchanged for a Peridot Green
Cayman R. We also have a 2008
blue Targa and recently acquired a
996 GT3 race car.

EV: What do you like about being
members of SPC?
A. Besides the social aspects of the club,
we have a great time together at Autocrosses
(Lynda is better than me….Grrr!), and I
am looking forward to an upcoming DE at
Sebring. We recently volunteered to work in
the Porscheplatz at the 12 Hours of Sebring.
We enjoyed the experience but next year we
will be sure to get a closer hotel!
