Jeppesen NavSuite: An Integrated Electronic
Navigation Solution
Jeppesen recently launched
NavSuite , a fully integrated,
convenient bundle of Jeppesen’s
leading software applications
offered at a low monthly price.
NavSuite is composed of JeppView ®
electronic Airway Manual ® charts
and various flight planning
applications, tailored to fit the
needs of business aircraft
operators. NavSuite is another
step in Jeppesen’s long term
strategy to seamlessly integrate
and bundle various services for
convenience and value.
NavSuite is designed to simplify
the process of maintaining
subscriptions and data while
reducing the overall cost of the
services. A single update for all
of the applications within the
suite is available every 14 days via
CD and Internet download.
With an Internet connection,
customers can keep their data
current anywhere, at anytime—an
important feature considering
pilots and flight crews are often
away from their home when
updates become available.
By combining various applications,
NavSuite gives customers one
seamless package, which means
convenience and savings—up to
50 percent on revision services.
NavSuite subscribers also get the
added benefit of reduced fees on
Jeppesen's International Trip
Planning service.
NavSuite Continental and NavSuite
Global are aimed at the business
aviation market and offer
JeppView along with access to
JetPlanner and JetPlan.com,
Jeppesen’s flight planning
applications with features suited
to operators of high performance
business jets and turboprops.
NavSuite Global gives customers
the full capability of Jeppesen's
JetPlan ® flight planning engine,
while NavSuite Continental offers
a reduced flight planning feature
set and lower cost. NavSuite
Continental is better tailored to
corporate operators who generally

fly jet or turboprop aircraft within
a single hemisphere.
JeppView services provide
full-color, high-quality, vectorbased
electronic charts, as well as
electronic enroute charts that can
be customized to meet user
preferences. JeppView contains
the same information as
Jeppesen’s Airway Manual
coverages, including electronic
terminal approach charts, arrival
and departure procedures, and
airport diagrams. Electronic text
has also been added to eliminate
the need to carry paper text.
Paper enroute charts and area
charts round out these services.

Now included as part of all
JeppView subscriptions is
JeppView FliteDeck—the moving
map application. Its user
interface was designed using
proven human factors principles,

Health Advisories
The U.S. State Department’s current
list of Travel Warnings includes:
Afghanistan, Algeria, Bosnia-Herzegovina,
Burundi, Central African Republic,
Colombia, Democratic Republic of
Congo, Haiti, Indonesia, Iran, Iraq, Israel,
the West Bank, and Gaza, Ivory Coast,
Kenya, Kyrgyzstan, Lebanon, Liberia,
Libya, Nepal, Nigeria, Pakistan,
Philippines, Saudi Arabia, Somalia,
Sudan, Yemen, and Zimbabwe.

Significant Airport/Runway Closures
Toluca (MMTO) - As of 01 June 2005,
Toluca is once again open on a 24-hour
basis without curfews.
Quito (SEQU) - Airport will be closed daily
between 0400Z-1130Z through 11 July.
Lima (SPIM) - Will be closed daily from
2000Z-2230Z through 14 July.
Port of Spain (TTPP) - Expect closures
Monday-Saturday from 0200Z-1000Z
until 31 October.
Almaty (UAAA) - Will be closed Monday-
Saturday between 0700Z-1100Z through
31 October.
Notable Fuel Shortages
Asmara (HHAS) - Please note that
Asmara (HHAS) has no fuel available
until further notice.
Guayaquil (SEGU) - Expect delays up to
two hours until further notice. Manta
(SEMT) is a good alternative until the
situation at Guayaquil improves.
ACAS II Required in Italian Airspace
Per NOTAM 1A7381/2004, ACAS II is
now required to transit Italian airspace.
Change in APIS Regulations
Effective 06 June 2005, new rules put out
by Customs & Border Protection (CBP)
are in effect for electronic APIS
submissions for Part 135 aircraft. The
eAPIS Online Transmission System is
currently available for operators to make
submissions, and it can be accessed at
https://eapis.cbp.dhs.gov/. Previously,
operators could make submissions
through the NBAA web site, but this
will no longer be available starting 04
October. For other important guidelines,

Jeppesen Weather Flashes with USPLN Lightning Data

Network (USPLN) in our weather
maps. USPLN is a partnership
between TOA Systems and Weather

the lightning sensors, and WDT
operates the network with TOA,
distributes the lightning data, and
provides applications that display
the data.
Jeppesen has become a value-added
reseller for the USPLN data and will
include the data in our weather
products beginning this July. The
USPLN uses innovative technology
that allows the detection of both
cloud to ground (CG) lightning as
well as within cloud (CC, IC, CA)
lightning. Normally, more than 70
percent of all lightning strikes are
within cloud type lightning, which
is very pertinent to aviation.
Previously, only cloud to ground
lightning data was available from
the National Lightning Detection
Network operated by Vaisala
(formerly Global Atmospherics
Incorporated). Jeppesen will provide
the total lightning picture that is
available from the USPLN.
Another benefit that the USPLN
offers is an extended geographic
coverage. The USPLN network
consists of approximately 90 sensors
across the United States. The normal
range of the sensors is around 500
miles, but using ionospheric skip
technology, some lightning can be

detected thousands of miles from
the sensors. The normal detection
efficiency of the USPLN is greater
than 95 percent with strike location
accuracy within 250 meters.
However, detection efficiency and
accuracy decrease as distance from
the sensors increases. Even so, the
USPLN regularly detects lightning
strikes as far away as northern
Canada, the Caribbean, Mexico and
Latin America, northern South
America, and the eastern Pacific out
to Hawaii. The corresponding map
shows actual lightning strikes
overlaid with infrared satellite
imagery. You can see how far
away lightning is detected and
how well it corresponds with
satellite imagery.
Jeppesen will offer USPLN lightning
data as separate maps that are
updated every 10-15 minutes, as
well as include lightning data with
Infrared and Visible satellite images.
In areas outside of the NEXRAD
radar network, lightning data is
the best way to determine if
convective activity and thunderstorms
are present.
Our display software allows us to
show past lightning as well as
current activity, so we can see trends
in the activity. This is helpful in
determining if a thunderstorm is
growing or decaying and showing
the movement of the active cells.
We feel that the addition of the
USPLN lightning data to Jeppesen
weather products is another step in
providing the best aviation weather
information to our customers. With
the recent additions of a NEXRAD
forecast product, worldwide
turbulence and icing maps, and now
the USPLN lightning data, Jeppesen
is at the forefront of state of the art
aviation weather products. We are
